Well, I finally got the new Trident on the fisihing grounds off of Flagler Point over the weekend.  I had a fantastic time getting her all dialed in and figuring out how to fish from a Yak for the first time.  To my surprise it was MUCH easier than I had expected.  The Trident is amazingly stable and I was able to move around and grab things from all over without ever feeling like I was about to capsize.  I was even able to paddle around with two crab pots full of crab balanced on the rod-pod without any fear.  The Trident definitely sits higher and drier than the Prowler 15 and it seems like you have no worries about running out of storage space.

Right off the bad I hooked into a lively coho that easily popped off the downrigger, then proceeded to fly out of the water with my flasher in tow......I'll get you next time mr. coho.  I tried trolling all sorts of stuff, then switched to drifting and slow trolling cut plug, but only managed a few dog fish and bull heads.  The beach was totally packed with shore fisherman and some people seemed to be doing pretty well.

All in all the Trident was great, the weather beautiful, the camping relaxing, the crabbing fantastic (till I found out that my two new pots were swepted away by the current in the night) and the fishing....well lets just say that it will be vastly improved upon in the near future.....but it was a great opportunity to figure things out a bit and build some confidence.  Looking forward to installing the fishfinder this week!

Photo is from the Trident...you can see Espiga out in front of me.

Looks like an awesome day and that's for the report and thought on the Trident!

The Trident sure looks nice....funny thing is we were soo focused on fishing that I never took it out for a spin. :(

There are several differences that I can see when comparing the Trident to the P15.
- The boat looks quite a bit bigger.
- The bottom looks like a much more stable design.
- The seat area is slightly raised so no water will stay in the seat and it give a little more height off the water.
- The 'rod pod' is cool.  I thought the main benefits of it would be easily accessible storage, which will be the case most of the time, but what really turns me on is the accessibility to the stern.  I am into multi-day trips and the P15 is limited in storage volume and ability to distribute weight evenly.
- The sonar well is cool but I noticed that one would have to rig it to stay open, unless it works out to rest the hatch on the top of the sonar.
- They have increased the number and size of flat areas to mount gear.  It seems like these flat areas have a little more thickness.
- Drains have been added from one foot notch to the next, so water won't settle in each individual foot well.
- Drains in the forward hatch actually are low enough that water will drain, unlike the P15 that holds a little water around the outside of the hatch.

All in all, OK did a great job of improving upon the P15 and addressing the various features that are less than ideal.

It looks like there are two opportunities to win one in Sept. Hopefully one is headed my way!  ;)
