[sarcasm]Sweet, that's going to be a whole 10 minutes closer to my house in Portland than the one Lacey, WA.[/sarcasm]

At least it gives me someplace to stop and checkout when I occasionally head to Southern Oregon/Northern California.

Why are these big boys so scared of the Portland area?  I thought Cabela's was going to land in OC area?
I called Bass Pro Shops costomer relations department last year asking them if they had any intensions of planting a store here and they said that we don't have a very big bass following up here.  I asked how the offshore lures and gear are selling in Las Vegas NV, and Mesa AZ?   No comment.  :-\

Is Portland too weird for them?

Oregon anglers tend to save their pennies for salmon, trout and offshore gear.
I think the ones who target Bass have learned how to find what they want online for much less than most Bass super stores.

I know I'm still waiting for Dick's to realize that they have too much Bass gear and not near enough salmon and sturgeon gear.

Try telling the folks at Big 5 that their sturgeon rigs are illegal in Oregon...
HA

Big box stores will always be that - The Big Box

ya can't expect them to have what you need for local fishing.

I'd say, though, that Dicks is trying by hiring Joes employees and even their market buyer (but I think that was the Joes buyer, not the GI Joes buyer).  When Dicks opened, they didn't even have Kwiks or Flatfish, and very little of anything beyond bass stuff.  Hell, last time I was there I couldn't even find the crankbait I was looking for because their bass tackle had been shrunken so much!

You'd be surprised though, at the Kwikfish K13-K16 selection at Bass Pro.  I was quite surprised to see them at all, but guess they're used for muskie too....

As long as we've hijacked this thread, has anybody checked out the new holographic kwikfish with rattle?  I think those would be the ticket for big bass or walleye.

I can't wait till they open up it will be a 10 minute drive into Springtucky to Cabella's for me. No more shipping charges!!!! Dick's is getting a little better in Eugene.  I still have to go to at least 2 stores for salt tackle or stock up while on the coast.  :clock:

I haven't seen them yet but you could be on to something.  Trolling kwiks in sept or oct when the Columbia is full of Fall Chinook, Coho, and Steelhead is high up on the fun scale.  One day I had a six species day on the same Kwikfish. Would have been a hell of an AOTY points day. ;D

Here are a few of the holographic kwiks.  They come in K11 thru K15 I believe.
