Fishermen's has the folding danielson traps on sale right now for about $14 - aka nearly half price.  Picked up 3 traps, lead line, harnesses, bait bins for less than $150...

It's no wonder your wife gave you a funny look when asked about Alaska!  ;D

Good luck crabbing!!!

for yak crabbing I recommend scrapping the bait cages and picking up some bait bags (the kind the commies use) at Englund marine.  They are compact to transport (both empty and full) and allow you to snap them in and out of the traps easily.  Building some floats you can wrap you line on also helps a bunch too (I can post pics if you like). I also modified one of those rollers that fit into a scotty and that make pulling them a breeze.. I love crabbing in the ocean when I head out rockfishing and with the right set up it is not much of a hassle.

Anywhere there's sand.   ;D
I usually drop a pot anytime I'm fishing the ocean.  Where never seems to be that important as long it's not where the waves are breaking when you plan on pulling the pot.

I've never been skunked dropping in the ocean..... yet....

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

A popular area to crab here is right outside the entrance to Sunset Bay. If(when) you come down for the tourny here you can do some crabbing too. I'd be more then willing to help ya eat 'em! :P
See ya on the water..
