Howdy all,

I've gotten a decent feel for PC/Cape Kiwanda, and while I still need to explore the territory, I'm looking for some other good launch points into the big blue.  I know that some folks have launched from Oceanside, but I believe the big rocks out there are reserves, and you can't approach closer than 500' right now?

Right now the drive to and from PC is about as far as I want to go on a kayaking day trip - and I'd probably be willing to go as far south as Cascade Head if it is worth a shot.  Anyone have suggestions as far as ocean fishing goes, within 2 hours drive of Portland?

The reef out of Oceanside is out past the rocks so the wildlife buffer zone doesn't really come into play.

I have several great "secret spots"... I found all of them by looking at a coastal chart, road map and some old fashioned trial and error.  Find the structure then find the access then try it out..

It's tough to beat PC for launching off the beach. I was actually going to try cascade head this weekend but have to work :( I've only been to oceanside when it was big and nasty and was very inhospitable.

The stacks at cascade are also off limits this time of year. It would be tough to get conditions calm enough, but that headland seems like it would be good.

The jetty at Tillamook can produce, and if it's rough you can fish it inside. the launch at garibaldi is about a miles paddle to the jetty.

You can get out at manzanita sometimes, and there's structure N & S of the beach. There's also Short Sands, but lots of surfers. But for 2hrs from PDX, PC is best.

I have to second what Pelagic said.  Find some good charts and put some miles on the car.

I have a list of possible places to fish given the right ocean conditions and sack size.  Just remember, the predominant wind direction in the summer is NNW.  Early mornings and late afternoons are generally calm.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
