Narrowed down to the Abu Garcia Revo Inshore or the Revo Toro. Both are probably better reels than I need, and the Toro is overkill for probably 80% of the fishing that I do or will do.
Primary use will be jigging for groundfish and halibut, the occaisonal bay troll for salmon, and possibly offshore mothership albacore, which is why I'm considering the Toro.

The reel will be paired for the most part to (likely) an Okuma Cedros high speed jigging rod.

I love the Inshore for anything other than jigging straight down. The reel I use for jigging deep is my Ambassadeur 6501! For a new reel, it's tough to beat the price of the 6501. Used, you could find a number of good old Penns that would work just fine for cheap.

I've used the Revo Inshore in less than 75' successfully, but it isn't my deepwater jigging reel. If I know I'm going to be jigging in more that 50' of water most of the time then my go-to reel is my Avet SX. I have the 2-speed, but it is just extra bling. The standard one speed is great.

If you're set on the inshore or toro for jigging, I'd go toro.

It looks like I'll be selling my Inshore soon, if you're interested.

BIG +1
on the Avet SX.

I'm a fan of the Abu's, but this lil rock (the Avet) is sooo well built and sooo simple that its hands down the best reel for the job. Not only will the lever drag stop a freight train (smoothly) and dance a jig on the bottom of ocean, but the free spool is absurd (if you spin the empty reel it'll go on forever). If you mag it (absurdly easy procedure) it makes an excellent casting reel.

I stole mine at a Boater's World closing sale for $130, but I'd gladly pay retail for my next one (and I am as cheap as they come). It does not like to be in sand, but it's soooo simply built that tear down and reassembly is a cake walk. The two speed is excellent bling, but it really is overkill.  I reeeeally like my single speed.

I love my Avet (LX 6/3 lefty for hali & tuna).  Got it from Charkbait.

They have a special on now and I'm ordering the MXJ.

Check out the video on that page for a great selection/sizing discussion.

Big vote for Avet----no level wind to gum up or screw up, direct link to the fish, awesome and smoooth drag.  I love mine!!!   I think the Garcia might be a better caster (have had birdsnests with the Avet due to its fantastic free spool)  but for mooching and jigging it's da bomb!!  Well built, fantastic CNCmachine work.  giant drag surface, too.   See this link for tips:

Have you tried the new Avet Cast Controls?

I have a love/hate relationship with my Avets.  Love them when they're clean.  Hate them that I have to service them often.  They take on a lot more salt water than other reels and it show in the buildup inside the reels.  Still, I reach for them more often than not.

A big plus for the Toro from me. I had mine out in the salt a lot last year caught Bass, Ling, Silvers, and Chinook on it.  It's a fantastic all around reel.

ok, slightly off the track but.................

why can't i find a reel in the sizes you're talking about in a left hand model? everything i've found is right handed and thats just plain akward for me.

When not using the Avet, I use Shimano Tekota---smooth drag, nice level wind and cost effective (not dirt cheap, though).

Jay,
Oh Yeah?? a lefty? will be looking that one up.

I am really looking hard at the Diawa Saltist, the blue one, in either the smalller or medium size. dont care about it being a single speed reel. wouldnt knwo what to do with two gears since have never ever useded one. since it wouldnt get used more than 2-3 times a year anyway, (current gear useage and salt trips factored in) this thing would last me and who ever i handed it over to when i'm too old to fish at least both our lifetimes.

but, the Saltist doesnt come in a lefty model right now.
