"Three barbed hooks at one time"

Does this mean one treble hook -or-three singles?  The regs read as though treble hooks only count as a single hook  ???  I am confounded by how simple your regs are apparently; I'm trying to figure out what the "catch" is.

A treble hook is a single hook.  Where trebles are not considered a single hook, the regs will generally specify.

The "catch"?  That's simple.  The catch is that you have to pay 4 times more for an Oregon license.  But, we have better fish.  Lol!

Thanks Spot!

I did think it was a little odd I am paying $10 less than what I paid for my annual WA combined license for two days in OR.  That said, I'll probably be on more fish in two days there than the entire Puget Sound ling season...

What's the skinny on fishing for halibut and lingcod on the same outing.  For some reason I thought I read that if ya have one or the other bagged already, you can't retain the other.  Did I read this right, or dream it up in a nightmare?  :-\

Here's the deal:

Quote from: Oregon Sport Fishing Regs
During days open to the Oregon Central Coast “all-depth” sport halibut fishery, when
Pacific halibut are onboard the vessel, no species from the groundfish group may be
taken and retained, possessed or landed, except sablefish and Pacific cod.

From what I gather, this means:

IF: The all depth quota is not met from this past weekend (June 3rd to June 5th - the landing estimates have not been updated yet), then the 19th is going to be an "all-depth" day (which will make the ramp loads of fun!  ::) ). I will make sure to post this info when it comes out unless someone beats me to it. This should be in the next one or two days.

Then: You may not retain a halibut that you would be so lucky to hook into if you have other species of groundfish on yer yak. This also means that if your first catch of the day happens to be a halibut and you decide to kill it, you're done fishing for the day.

(Anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

There is a "loop hole" 8)  On "all depth" days if you have rockfish on board and catch a halibut you have to release it (the halibut).   BUT if you catch a halibut first you can return to port, drop it off and go back out for your lings and rockfish.. You just can't have both on board at the same time.  Remember this is only on the "all depth" days (ODFW site for dates), on "near-shore" days (open 7 days a week inside 40 fathoms until quota is reached) you can have both on board at the same time.

Ahh yes! I remember reading about that point.

The 19th will definitely be one of the bonus all depth days, there was 57% of the quota remaining before June3-5. Ramps gonna be busy, guess we can launch where you launched in this post, the tide should high in the early morning making it easier:

Again, as I said earlier.....if it is going to be a zoo at the boat launch and provided I have my trailer completely functional by fishing day, I'm open to the idea of seeing how many yaks we can pile on to it for a yakpool.

I know I can get three yaks on the top rack (two faced down and one tied faced up on top of the two hulls), and probably 4-6 more stacked sideways under that rack, ( I need to do a test fit with a few yaks this week to see how this will work out).  Then several of the shorter ones the bed of my truck.  Fishing gear can ride in the lower half of the trailer.  I can seat 6 folks in the truck itself.

If this is something that you may want to entertain with your yak, be sure to bring some lashing straps.  I have 3 sets, and some tie downs, but ya never know?

How well do we trust coolers being left in the trailer while out fishing?  :-\

I can also haul 2 kayaks on my car. I'm taking both with me, but the T11 will be staying back at camp because the wife thinks she might want it in the river

I'm sure I can accomodate a few coolers in my rig or we can strap them to my roof while we are on the water.  I don't think many people would be willing to put in the effort to climb on my roof to snatch a cooler.

Is there a "sweet spot" time that we could try and avoid the ramp traffic?  Sunrise on the 19th is 5:29am.  I usually don't eat much of a breakfast, so I'd love to go straight to the launch just before first light and be ready to launch between 5:30-5:45.
