After taking my truck to the shop in the morning, I wanted to get in some time on the water this afternoon. I have wanted to try out Silver Creek Reservoir for quite some time now and since it had been scheduled to be stocked this week I figured this would be as good a day as any to give it a shot.

Got to the ramp at around 1:30 and was on the water shortly after that. When first out on the water I noticed a lot of sparrows cruising across the top of the water. I was seeing this as a good sign since shortly after I noticed the birds, I noticed a good amount of trout breaking the surface. I paddled to a random spot across the lake from the launch and tied on a spinner. Good thing I asked questions about what kind of spinner to use! ;D  I tipped it with a little power bait and cast it out behind me. I took about five paddle strokes and my rod starts to dance in the rod holder! Yes!! Just as I was hooking up with my first trout of 2010, it starts pouring rain.
"Lovely weather we're having!", I said to a small boat with a dad and his two little kids as they passed me. We both chuckle and I continue reeling in my fish. It was just a feisty planter about 9", but it sure was nice to see! I reset my troll and continued on.

The rain continued for pretty much the rest of the time I was out there, but it let up significantly after that first hookup. My next fish was 14.5''. I realized on my way to the lake that my camera was sitting peacefully back on my desk at home so I realized this wasn't going to be pretty if I caught something to post for AOTY. I probably exposed my phone to much more water and slime then the manufacturer would recommend today, but I got the pictures I needed!

I was getting bit pretty consistently for the time I was out there. I ended up boating somewhere around 7 planters and a couple lager fish for the 2 1/2 hours I was on the water. There were about 6 or 7 small boats and plenty of bankies. There were a couple of people that even came out to swim a lap of the lake.

One of the last fish of the day must have been right near the surface because as I grabbed the rod to set the hook, I looked back to see him jump right out of the water. I pulled him gently aboard and found that he had a mess of line hanging off of his mouth. There was about a size 18 treble hook in the corner of it's mouth and it looked like whoever he broke off was using a second hook, which was about a size four baitholder, on another leader. Both leaders were joined by a snap swivel. Looked like a sad mess of a plunking setup. I snapped some quick photos and decided it would cause too much damage to try and pull the treble free so I cut the mess off at the treble hook. It sure was a beautiful fish, even though it was a stocker. Ended up measuring in just over 15 1/8".

Most certainly a nice couple of hours on the water, even though I was getting rained on the whole time! I will be back there soon for sure!

Looks like another successful trip!  I was wondering about the spinner, what did you catch your fish with?

Nice write-up my friend!  And, way to expand your horizons.   ;D

Do I see Bass reports in your future too?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
