Ouch! ??? :'(

I am very surprised how soft the Hobie plastic is on my Adventure compared to the stuff my Fish and Dives are made of.  Maybe it will help keep the concussions to a minimum this year 8)

Got it in late March and as we all know, one thing is has not been, is hot.

I got brushed off by Hobie Cat, and was instructed to contact my retailer, ACK.  ACK responded to my first email today in just a few hours.

This really is a bummer.  I was almost finished rigging the boat.  At least I know what I'll change.  This will probably put a crimp in my fishing, so I guess AOTY 2010 is safe from me - and I was just gonna mount a surge!

I received the boat in late March - not yet 3 months ago.  It has been stored just like the OK T13A before it, resting on a large Wheelez cart without straps nor bungees supporting only its own weight.  The cart cross members do not correspond to the location of the warp.  It has been carried only a few times on a truck rack with Thule Glide & Set carriers.  The rear "glide" pads of the carrier are astern of the warp, and I moved the "glide" pads on the carrier very far apart until they ride on the curve of the hull because the plastic of the bottom of the hull was so thin and flexed so much.

I will post to the Hobie forum.  New users can only post during regular business hours.

Could you support the kayak upright in such a way that puts that dimple at the lowest point, and add hot water to the inside of the hull?  Then wrap the boat in that area in black plastic and put in the sun (I know what sun)?

I'm thinking the heat will soften the plastic, and the water weight will help pop it back out.

It's not oil canning.  When pressed it does not pop out then back in.  Also I am hesitant to do anything that would void my warranty.  If it was a few years old and I had done something to cause the condition then I would try anything.  But, it is a new boat, been on the water and carriers just a few times, and it should be right.

I don't know what yer worried about. Just take it back to where you bought it and Hobie will warranty it. I know it sucks to have to re rig the Yak, but you will have a new boat again.
See ya on the water..

I agree..  I would haul it back to where you got it, show them the goods, tell them your story, and if they are worth their salt they will walk you to the back and let you pick out your replacement.  Pull your goodies off the old yak and spend a few evenings rerigging her back up and you could be on the water for the ORC and AOTY in no time.  Put a tank of gas in the car and show up at the Oregon Rockfish Classic on the 19th and put her trough her paces!
