Depoe Bay was alot of fun.  I'd do it again for sure.  By the way, anybody know the particulars on the Coast Guard recovery of a kayak fisherman?  Just wondering.

Are they taking credit for FishSniffer's self-recovery?  ??? I know he announced his yard sale on 16, but he stated he didn't need assistance.

I should have thought to grab a white board.

and when they found out we were not staying there they wanted $4.00 a car to drive down to sign the tournament waiver.  We had two rigs.  "That will be $8.00 for the parking fee."  I thought "you gotta be kidding me..."  No, he was serious.

I passed the Red Barn without stopping as always.  Wasn't aware Ralph or John were charging for parking.

Do you have any details on that?  Wondering if someone else got in harms way.  If you're referring to the red kayak that was me. The CG never responded because I called them on 16 just after it happened and just before I jumped back on my yak.  I was never really in any danger and not injured (except for my pride).  I never should have been on the North Reef during low tide.

I think for next year we need to add an Emergency Contact section to the waiver so if something happens to someone by themselves we have what we need to contact someone.

We had made other plans, and when they found out we were not staying there they wanted $4.00 a car to drive down to sign the tournament waiver.  We had two rigs.  "That will be $8.00 for the parking fee."  I thought "you gotta be kidding me..."  No, he was serious.  It hit me wrong, and I'll never stay there.  That also played into why we skipped the dinner.  Glad to hear that those who did stay there had a good time.

Alan

The owner came looking for me specificially on Sunday morning to apologize for this incident.  He heard about it and let me know that this was a misunderstanding on the part of his staff.  He'll be checking in to monitor the feedback from our stay so he knows what can be improved for future events and other groups.

As said before, the clean, well maintained bathrooms were "a breath of fresh air". ;D  Also, there were lots of services avaiable I don't think most people were aware of such as kayak, boat and ATV rentals as well as horse back riding.  I think I may have to book a spot there for fall chinook.

I think if he had a big board outside the shed by the kayaks listing the rentals available it would drive more business for them.

I was impressed with how clean the porta-john was to be honest.  I normally avoid those like the plague, but that one was clean enough I'd even :pottytrain5: in it.

I think we could probably convince our significant other to at least hang out for a couple hours or so in shifts or something.  As next years event comes together I'll take the reigns on this one and see if I can get something worked out.  Maybe I'll make a leader board for the station that could be used for the awards ceremony.

This sounds like a good idea brewing.  I'm sure I could get my wife to sit through a few hours on duty.  She's not afraid of slimy fish.  I could leave the camper on the truck this time and take the whole family with me to the parking lot. Kids can play in the park, she can nap, read a book, or go for a walk when she's off duty.  Now, if we can get several chica's to man the leader board, they could actually have some fun with it.   8)

Congrats Jammer! Way to pull in those hawgs!

I too was impressed by the facilities and the accommodating nature of the staff at the campground. I would love to have it there next year if everything else works out the same. Big thanks to Spot and Brian for taking charge of the whole thing and also big thanks to Zee and polepole for making this possible! It was great seeing everyone, thanks for an awesome weekend!

Those are some impressive fish, and it sounds like a great venue.  Congratulations to all!

My wifey is on board to help run the fish weigh in area next year.  If we get a few more volunteer chicas to join her they could take turns for various lengths of time.

To make it comfortable and semi official looking we could setup our 12'x12' Quik Shade and folding plastic picnic table in a parking spot, out of the way of other boats launching.  The chicas could play cards, talk chick talk, swap recipes, etc...while we fish.

I'm sure someone could come up with a snazzy leaderboard for easy tracking of entries throughout the day.

Congrats Jammer! Nice fish.

The 9 of us had a great time at Chinook Bend.  It was a great kid friendly place.  I was surprised by all the potential things that you could do there.  I think that the place should work on making it more obvious what they have there to do.  Maybe a flyer that comes with your reservation.

I like the idea of making the ORC more official.
PROGRESS IS JUST BEING THERE!

Can't do wrong by making it more professional and better organized.  Combine that with this year's success, and we'll likely end up with more participants and enhanced sponsorship.
