Hey All,
Anyone have any experience/knowledge about kayak fishing the lower Alsea River or accessing the salt via the river or beach areas around there? I'm going crabbing there this weekend with friends (in a power boat  :( )?

Thanks,
Jay

the best place to put in is at the marina at the end of commercial st. as for as crossing the bar thats usually not an option. you need a perfect day, and there is no garanty getting back. there is a great spot to launch a kayak north of there in seal rock. stop at the first pullout south of  sealrock state park walk back to north on the hwy you will see a trail to the beach. this is where a cart is a must. on a nice day you can thread the needle and head out to the reef just off shore. big boats dont like coming in that close  so the fishing is always awsome.

Be very careful where you park in Waldport. A bunch of my friends got their vehicles towed by a fly-by-night towing company during a fishing trip. There were no "No Parking" signs and there was no way to contact the towing company. They do not have an office or impound lot. They towed the cars, took some stuff out of each one, then hid them on a back road so we couldn't find them. We only found out about the towing company after calling State police and reporting the cars stolen. Over $250 for each car to get them back; we had to pay cash, then wait for the thieves to call us and tell us where the cars were(the "towing company" left them in the same lot they were towed from). You have to ask some serious questions about the police there to allow that kind of thing to happen.
I don't even slow down driving through town, I'll take my business elsewhere. I don't care how good the fishing is.

Thanks for all the info. We're fishing with some friends on their boat and not taking the yaks. I figured there might be some direct ocean access but I haven't found anything mentioned on-line. I'll do a driveby while I'm down there.
