I'm probably going to end up with a Catch Cooler in the long run, but I like to think outside the box sometimes.  However, I know I don't want a dark colored bag, as it would be counter productive in shedding the sun's heat away from the shell.

Actually, if I can find the chromelike fabric that the Catch Cooler is made of, I'm sure I could design and have my uncle whip up a custom bag for me of my exact liking with his power machine.

;) Hmmm, I must explore this option further.

I got teh Katch Kooler, work for 15-20# kings, but does retain smell, even if you hose it out when you get home.

I'm on my 3rd Catch Cooler. The new ones are a lot better than the original ones. They do get a bit ripe smelling after use but if you wash them out, rinse with a little baking soda and water, and then prop them open to dry, the bag won't reek. Once the lining gets punctured its time to toss it and get a new one.

I don't own either, but $99 Vs. $20 for pretty much the same product the KatchKooler has my vote.

Have you looked at some of the insulated deck bags?  I have a smaller one (~24") that I use for soda's and the occaisional fish.  Native makes some larger ones that will fit salmon and big lings.

Kalli,
squidgirl cleans hers out with a baking soda and water solution pretty much like wolverine describes, and it hasnt reeked yet. ( of course, she hasnt stuffed it all that much either.... >:D)

For the same price as one of these bags you can use the  Mylar bubble wrap pouches that ice luges sometimes come in and do some binge drinking at the same time.  These bags are about 4 ft long, 10” wide by 5” thick. Admittedly I used to get there bags in Boston so I don't know what containers west coast luges come in.    If anyone decides to go this route, I will happily help with the drinking.

I've had no issues with the Katch Kooler yet a good alternative is just a plain ol' burlap bag. It does really well for about 4-5 hours. Just cover your game clip o' fish in the tankwell and splash water on it every 15-20 minutes.

Okay, that took me for a short, strange trip through wikipedia. I was thinking "we don't get out sledding too much down here" (for that matter, I didn't get much time in a sled in Oregon either) Not that kind of luge. I guess I don't get out enuf. :dontknow:

Zee! Thanks for the headsup on the katchkooler! Down here, where evaporation works in reverse, some kind of cooler with ice is necessary if you don't want you catch cooked by the time you get home.

I used this bag from California Innovations that I found at Costco and Sam's Club for $10. But your katchkooler bag looks like it should do a much better job as its bigger in the right direction and separates the fish from the ice. (not to mention the price is right!) Does it come in any other color?

As far as I know, Katch Kooler only comes in Dark Blue.  Not sure what the hell the designers were thinking.  Currently I plan to get either some white or silver material to put over it.  Maybe just a nice white bag.  I almost got some holes in my bag during the ORC from the ling I think, but that's cuz I kept it alive til I got back.  (measured out at 22.25" and I wanted to make sure it was legal before I knocked it out!)

Sorry, I keep forgetting.  The first is a link to some very premium fish bags.
http://www.gobananaskayaks.com/browse.cfm/fishbags-coolers/2,60.html

And here is another idea (long):

Cliffs2Yak posted about Bodyboard bags for $16 at the NEX that could be used as a fish bag .  Allen (aLittleTank) dropped one off for me today (Mahalo Man!).  First off, the padding is less than 1/2 what I've seen in custom kayak fish bags, but still it is insulated and from initial tests water tight in the bottom half where there is no zipper.  First instinct is to put the curved end in the point of the kayak, but since that's where the zipper is it works better to slide the square end first so you have access to the zipper from the seat.  Won't work with loose ice because the water will leak out from the zipper, but it should work well with frozen bottles or sealed ice packs.  Measures 48" in length by 30" in width, ruling out any fish over 3' in length.  Made by Wet Dreams (Australia) and distributed by Surf Factory Outlet here in Hawaii (www.SurfFactoryOutlet.com) Their phone number and address in Kapolei is on the website.  Tested it out in a Scupper Pro see pics.

REI-OUTLET has a 98 liter dry bag for just under $35.  These work well for bleeding fish in the salt, add frozen water bottles to keep your catch cool.
