Hedzup! Lee, TTM, Ravdakot, & those who were thimkin about it!
i just checked on Magic Seaweed and it looks like this NW swell and wind will come to an end this coming Monday, with SW winds starting on Monday, and a new South swell just starting to hit here on Tuesday. Swell predicted to be about 5 to 6 feet, and weather conditions here shouldn't be that bad.
I'll keep watching the updates and checking it daily.
Wind should be user-friendly for yak fishing the N side of the jetty on Monday the 19th and (hopefully!) thru the 22nd.

Got home-improvement and maintenance projects rolling today thru the weekend! Gotta use this momo to power thru! Laters! 8)

I hope the 22nd will be viable in the afternoon.   :)

What does this mean?  Easier launching? Better fishing?

Safer conditions for us to be out there. Or at least less exciting for the right reasons ;)

Just checked the Magic Seaweed site and it looks like W the 21st and Th the 22nd will have favorable winds, and swell from the south.
Of course, that forecast will probably change in the next couple of days!

The way the weather forecast is morphing, it looks like thurs might be the best day.
Looks like there will be light onshore flow most mornings, with the wind not picking up too badly until the afternoon seabreeze effect kicks in.
I'll be fishing around here somewhere most of these morning high tides and thru the falling tide, starting tomorrow.
Too much work raising its ugly head. Beginning to look like some kind of hydra-headed monster. Might have to work in the afternoons. Jetty fishing day is a "no-work" day all day, though!  >:D Work is definitely the curse of the "self-employed" angler! :(

I checked up on the plastic anchovy imitations (that are rigged either Carolina style, or just with a jighead), and the ones to get are the 5" Sand Eels, in black (just the top of the back is black) made by Vision. You can squirt some Anchovy oil or goo inside their hollow bodies.

Of course, I still like plastic twirl-tail worms on jigheads. And that Gulp ghost shrimp sounds like its effective for anything!  Haven't tried it yet.

Fishing tomorrow! Today is another battle in the War on Entropy!

Speaking for myself - Rockfish, Lingcod, Cabezons   I'm gonna try to head out there Thursday, but thanks to Fife and their red light cameras, I have to swing by court at 10am first.

Dang! Abort the mission!  Forecast has morphed to bad. Murphy's Law now in effect! :(  Nope, it doesn't look good. Winds are now forecast to be from the NW 10-15 with higher gusts in the afternoons all through the week. This Thursday is looking to be the windiest day, too.
The morning hours have been foggy and overcast, with lighter winds, around 5-10 mph.
I'm not too excited about the way the conditions are looking to be.

I noticed some southerly flow yesterday mid-afternoon when I was caught up in the middle of a project. Thought to myself, "I should be out there right now!"  But, no fishing was achieved. Had to keep my head down, ear to the rail, nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel, finger on the trigger, eye on the cutting edge, and try not to inhale any fumes. I've been pressure washing my little world, and then resealing or repainting everything. Haven't busted loose to make it out fishing. Just tryin' to "get 'er done!"
I sure as heck don't want to be doing this home improvement stuff in Aug or Sept when the fishing in my area is always better than it is now!

Need patience and vigilance to grab the right weather conditions for yak fishing the jetty. Its one of those deals where you sometimes have to just keep paying attention so you'll notice when the conditions are right, and then drop everything and go for it.
Once in a while though, the forecasts hold true, and all your planning was right.  August should bring us more days of mellower wind.

So unfortunately, I'm going to have to, uhh, "refudiate" my plans for fishing the Jetty this week.  I'll keep my finger raised to the wind (wetted finger) so I can "wee-wee up" when the conditions are right.  Experience has taught me to never "misunderestimate" the propensity for the weather forecast to go foul.

(Newly coined words and phrase brought to us by our new "bard." :P)

I am enroute to Westport right now. Buddy talked me into hitting the jetty again. Staying the night and getting up early. Hope to get out near the end of the jetty to fish. Sunday I will get the yak out near home. Will post if I do any good on the jetty.

Always looking for new fishing spots and tactics. I pretty much catch and release everything.

Damn! It was REALLY windy here yesterday afternoon, from the N and NW. Bad winds for the N side of the jetty.
This morning it was light SW for a while! Sun is beating down now, with only a light breeze. Being totally out-of-sync, I'm mowing this afternoon, shortly. Even with my wide-brim hat, I'm no mad dog or Englishman!

Saturday was VERY windy and even a bit cold compared to the forecast. By about noon I was over the wind and ready to go. The rest of the state was sunny and warm...

I fished the jetty starting about 6am. I walked a little ways past the horn (fog horn) until the rocks became almost completely covered in bird crap and so slick you couldn't walk. I fished my way back but didn't have all that many bites. Last time I didn't venture nearly as far but caught more fish. This time I did get a much bigger fish though. I did run into a guy that said he had been there the last three weekends and got a big ling every time. He was catching a smaller fish then throwing it in for bait. He said he caught a 5??? Too windy to sit and ask questions.

I went back to Bellingham for Sunday fishing and found the tide was too low to launch at Birch Bay. I ended up driving around to Blaine and launching there. My buddy and I caught several dogfish but nothing else. The fish checker at the docks said no had brought anything in yet. Still too early in the year. We had fun pulling in doubles of dog fish several times and got to play with some bigger fish.

I bought the lip grips this weekend. Makes it much easier to deal with large fish. Definitely good advice I pulled form some of the posts here. Thats about it. TOugh weekend. Now I have a week at work to recover before next weekend. Might even venture out during the week if I can swing it.

Anyone else go out this weekend?

Good on you for braving the wind! Very nice Blackie, too!
Earlier in the season, the bird guano hasn't built up too much yet, since the huge winter surf always washes it clean. We had several periods of 20-25 foot swells this last year, and over a month straight when it never dropped below 15 feet. Believe it or not, those rocks were absolutely spotless in March. Looked like they had been pressure washed!
Now, the Jetty is "Pelican City" during the summer.

Some of my friends have told me they recently have seen anglers walking in from the jetty with stringers of fish, so we know they're out there.
