The 550 cord hinges were a great idea. We still haven't done Lee's crates yet (tomorrow) but here's the one I did this morn.

Looks good.  So, I've gotta ask... What made you chose to go with that model downrigger instead of the Laketroller?

Looks good, ravdakot. I might try this myself. I'm also interested why you chose this model dr.

Those who are doing this -- how do you secure the crate to the yak?

The depthmaster can handle a heavier ball, and has a better brake.

I have tankwell straps to secure it to the boat. They are wide nylon straps with dog leash clips on both ends to clip on my boats eyelets.

Make sure to soak the dog leash straps prior to tightening them down.  The nylon straps expand when wet and tighten up when they finally dry.  You'll get a snugger fit that will ensure the crate isn't the slightest bit loose.

The 550 cord can't be beat.  Mine isn't 100% complete, but it's close.  I'm going to add a 3pack rod holder on to it, possibly tomorrow.  You'll notice my downrigger is off to the side, that's because my yak is narrower and it helps with balance a bit.

Handle was 100% hand crafted by Ravdakot

550 weaving with a cut out so the Downrigger can be removed when I don't want it

This side will be up against the back of my seat
