I just picked one up. $99.  That's about 60% off of the retail price.  Spooled it with 375 yards powerpro, and am going to see if I can get a spare spool loaded with 50lb for use on powerboats.

IS that the low profile, or the "inshore' type???

It's basically a bigger version of the revo inshore low profile. Has a clicker, spool is about twice the width.

Holy crapola that's a good deal! I may have to get a new rockfish reel. It made Editor's Choice over at Tackle Tour. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewabugarciarevotoro.html

I got the 60, which is the wide one.  Fit 375 yards of 30lb powerpo on the spool.  The rumor from the guys behind the counter was that AG is discontinuing the Left hand Terrence versions, since evidently only people on the west coast understand that it makes sense to not have to switch hands after casting.

Is it just the Left Hand models that are $99?

Thanks,
Craig

Fisherman's Marine, here's their latest ad Rich.

Left hand levelwind/baitcasters are starting to make more sense to me, especially on a Hobie, since the steering is on the left. I have to switch hands on the rod or reach across with my right hand in tight situations near rocks on the ocean.
See ya on the water..

Roy,
Thanx for the link. i dont think i've ever had a stores on-line flyer load so fast or cleanly.

I think the more we discuss left handed retrieve, the more it makes sense to more of our members. maybe the "industry" will wake up one day and finally get away from having it on the wrong side.

madoc, they still have that reel in stock?

It still doesn't make sense to me, at least not for heavier gear (saltwater).  I don't hold a rod "trigger style".  I cast that way but shift to holding by the front grep.  I gotta move my hands either way and reeling righty is more comfortable to me.

I agree.  I don't even notice the shift when I do it. Reeling with my left hand just does not feel right (no pun intended).

i don't normally hold a rod "trigger style" either.Fact is I'm looking at removing the triggers on all my bait casters. I think in most cases they're in the way.  And, I actually use the fore grip and the butt except when actually casting/operating the reel.

Like you, the way i hold and control the rod with the right hand and reel with my left is "right" for me. I think this has to do with the fact that until i came out here, all my gear was feather casting oriented. Since I'd been casting with the right arm and controlling line/ reeling with my left since as long as i can remember, having to switch hands just isn't optional.

What i cant figure out is why the tackle industry insists on having the handles reversed and calling it "right". By thier standard, right handers should cast with the left and reel with the right. We all know that in the real world, that isn't happening.

Back to original post cause I've got a question; AVET SX vs. the Abu discussed here. Both retail currently about the same, [ exception being the smokin deal Madoc has found] yet the AVET is made HERE.

which is the better value??

That's insane!! The toro is one of the best reels I've ever used and it was worth the price at $270.  Makes me wish I wasn't a true lefty. I'd pick up a second one in a heartbeat.
It's never too late to start procrastinating.

Yeah, the price is only for the lefties.

I grew up using left hand retrieve spinning tackle, so LH retrieve makes the most sense to me.  I also don't understand changing hands after a cast. and whenever I am on a charter with RH gear, I always make the initial mistake of grabbing the rod, and then pawing the air on the offside of the reel looking for the crank.

Got to christen the Toro today with a few nice lings, a couple of greenlings, a couple little cabbies, and a couple of rockfish.
