Looks like the weather and seas are going to be perfect for a Hali trip off PC this weekend.  And of course, I'm too busy to give it a shot.
Anyone planning to fish for halibut this weekend?

I believe that this is opening for NORTH of Cape Falcon only.....

Check the regs before you go!

It's never too late to start procrastinating.

Pacific Halibut

Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain (central coast subarea) – Near-Shore

The nearshore Pacific halibut fishery is closed effective Saturday, July 17, at 11:59 p.m. for the remainder of 2010 because the quota is projected to be reached.

Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain (central coast subarea) – All-Depth

All-depth halibut fishery is closed until the summer fishery opens on Aug. 6. Open every other Friday and Saturday from Aug. 6 to Oct. 30 or until the sub-area all-depth catch limit is harvested.

North of Cape Falcon  (Columbia River subarea)

Here's some confusing updates.  Are they actually opening it for ALL depths or are they only opening it for areas outside the 20 fathom limit?

The way I would like to read it is that 'All depth' means ALL DEPTH.  Looks good to me!

Looks like I've got to get back out there!  :hello2:

All depth is all depth.  Which means you can only retain halibut if you catch one, and can't be fishing for any other legal species  :(.  To save the rockfish.

Hmm, seriously! I thought it was out past 20 fathoms...God, i wish i had a wingman..

FRI...NW WIND 10 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT. NW SWELL 4 FT. PATCHY DRIZZLE IN THE MORNING.

SAT...W WIND 10 TO 15 KT...BECOMING SW IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 2 FT. NW SWELL 4 FT. CHANCE OF DRIZZLE OR RAIN IN THE MORNING...THEN SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON.

Thats the forecast for southern WA to Central Oregon. Maybe a trip to Depoe Bay is in order for Friday-Saturday. Any interest in getting a group together? Head southwest and ride the wind back later on Saturday.
See ya on the water..

CBY - How far out you figure you gotta go to get into some butt habitat? If that wind doesn't come up as advertised that could be a long ass paddle back against the current for us poor no Hobie slobs.

Speaking of Halibut, I saw yakinitup posing with his 35-pounder on page 11 of the new kayak angler magazine.  Nice fish, Jeff!

Not sure, figure just pedaddle out for an hour, that would be about 2 miles at a leisurley pace. Fish for a couple hours outside and if nothing is happeneing we can fish for rockfish on the way in.

I'd be game for saturday.

Dana

Let's do it. Not super early on Saturday, I'll plan to leave at about 5:00 AM, that will get me there at about 7:30-8 AM. Launch at 8:30?

nice long period on Saturday.

Yea, that looks good!

See ya on the water..
