I'm thinking of heading out to the Coast next week on Thursday and getting one last extended summer road trip in, and try and fill my harvest card.  I'd like to get out on Wednesday, since it is the new moon and the tides seem to be lining up well with sunrise, but that's not happening.

Should I focus all of my attention on one bay, or spread the love?  maybe head out Wednesday evening and fish Nehalem, and then move south to Tillamook for Thursday, then Siletz for Friday (and home that evening)? Should I even bother with Nehalem?  Go in reverse?

I'll have some intel for yah after this weekend ;D.   Its on the early side for Tillamook, but some of the other bays should have fish.

Madoc, I have done very well in Nehalem this time of year in the past for both Chinook and Coho, however make sure to check the updated regulations. I'm 99% sure they closed the mouth(or jaws) of the bay again to chinook, so you will need to fish up river just a bit. It sounds like fun though. Make sure to post a full report when you get back. Im curious to hear about your journey. Rip it up!

I fished the Nehalem this past weekend from a boat. We hit 6 coho and 1 chinook. Unfortunately we did not catch any clipped coho. I am a newb at kayak fishing for salmon, just mainly Hagg lake etc. for bass. I would like to fish for salmon from my kayak.
What is better for kayak fishing? The Nehalem or Tillamock bay, from the standpoint of current etc.

Nehalem Bay is a little mellower.  Either bay will be tidally affected.  In fact, just about every estuary should have fish in it now.  Just don't loiter around the mouths on the outgoing.

Spot is right.  I'd agree that T-Bay can be the gnarlier of the two.  Spot is always right, though.  In fact, he's kind of like the retarded lady that sits in the front of the bus.  If you even make eye contact, you will be bowled over by a double-overhead wave of information.  But rather than wanting to kill yourself due to having to hear about a "really schweet twip to Wah-Maht," you'll wanna kill yourself due to dichotomous feelings of paddling-centered self doubt and flagrant man-crushing.

Nah, I think that was more for her justification of using Dixie cups.  But you may be right.  I have given her a hard time for many things.  Like just the other day, when she...oh, better head to The Bucket soon.................
