The lady friend is talking about heading down to Shortsands to go surfing. I was planning on taking the yak and fishing while she surfs. How is the access? How tough is the surf to get through? How is the fishing? Anyone going to be in the area next weekend?
Thanks guys,

Spot

Thanks guys,

Access is great, if you have a cart, one that's good on the rocks and stairs, and strong shoulders to pull your yak back up the rocks, stairs and .5 mile trail.

Getting out thru the surf is a snap.  Just shoot out along the wall on the south side (if the swell is from the south) or the north side (if the swell is West of North).  On small days you can head straight out at one of the creeks.

Getting back in can be a bit more challenging.  Beware the reform dredgers...   ;D

Fishing can good but I'm not gonna give away the farm.  Half the fun is discovery.

Have fun and post a report when you get back!

Get a WheelEez beach cart (Not mini beach cart). It eats sand and big rocks and logs for breakfast. Expensive, yes. But worth every damn penny. ;)

And please support NWKA's sponsor Hook1. The best service ever and 10% off for NWKA members w/ code: hook12010

I need to upgrade my Wheeleez wheels... I have the beach cart with the black treaded tires.  What are the balloon wheels I want to replace them with?  There are a ton of options on their site.

30 CM wheels are what you're looking for.

Its a bitter pill, as they aren't cheap, but I don't EVER regret buying one. Used it a bunch this summer and I am always amazed how well it handles large cobble beaches.   Plus Hook1 folks are great to work with.

Which beach is Shortsands? The surf names don't correspond well to geography... ;)

I have the mini beach cart and love it. However, I have not had it out on really soft, deep sand.  I bought mine locally at Next Adventure's Paddle Shop in PDX for $89.  I too am a fan of Hook1, but I couldn't resist the price. It has the 22 cm pvc Beach Wheels.

Ok, the picture makes Spot's launch description pretty obvious.

Thanks,
