I have never seen squid school tight enough in PS to use a dip net. Catching can be greatly improved by actually feeling for the take. The old salts fishing off the piers will out fish just about everyone else there. You want a light rod with great feel. I have seen guys use 200-400 dollar fly rods with 20 dollar spinning reels.

Last night I had a meeting on the water front and had to kill some time so I swung by one of the piers to see if they guys are out. My favorite spot has out lets so all you need is extension cords and lights. It is also not very heavily used 4-10 guys when the squid are in.

I went by around 6 and there was still too much light so no one was out. My rods were still in the car so I grabbed my spinning rod just to past the time. Still had my Neah Bay bait catcher grub on. Dropped down at the base of the pier and bounced it along the bottom. 5 mins later I have a tug on the line.....

No shitten 26" or so Ling. Well out of season so back in he went but put a big grin on my face!

Lets go catch some squid soon .....

We would catch them down in SoCal on a sabiki rig.  Those things are pretty fun to catch from a kayak, just remember what demonic said about getting inked, pretty much will happen! :D  You can kind of figure them out though.  Once you get them up to the surface, don't pull them in too quickly.  Let them sit just off the surface for a sec and let them squirt once or twice, then bring 'em in.

I'm in. Staying home this weekend so I will have to at least wet the line a bit. I am game for either tonight or Sunday night. If we want to just do a NWKA group I have a good spot that we might have to ourselves and I think I can find my work lights too.

Nice pic HG. That's what I'm talking about KT. Got a few squid last night. Man, those are some real tasty buggers!

Let's give everyone some more time. How about Friday night? Fungun, care to expand on the location. If you don't want specifics online how about general location so people can see if it's possible to join. How does 7pm sound for a start time?

I'm interested and would love to join the group!

Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights are best for me (but Friday could work too).

Btw, you will need a shellfish license for squid. Refer to "License Regulations" section of https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/wa/license. The pertinent text, "A shellfish license is required to take anything classified under state shellfish regulations, including sea cucumbers, seaweed, and even squid."

A Combination License works too, and I suspect that is what most of us have.

Page 128 of the WA Regs states:  A Combination or a Shellfish/Seaweed License is required for all shellfish (except CRAWFISH) and SEAWEED harvest. A catch record card, and endorsement is required to fish for DUNGENESS CRAB in Puget Sound. (See License Requirements, page 14).
