We've had days of perfect water out here, anyone in my neck of the woods up for some water time this week.  I'm trying to hit some early AM or PM quick trips or maybe Friday.  Looks like the weather will hold for a while.

We've had fog here on the coast nearly every morning the last few days. Winds have been light offshore in the early morning, turning light onshore by afternoon. The small swell has been producing some fun beach break waves just perfect for an old carcass like me to get back into the groove. I've been riding a 6'8" X 21" X 2.25" epoxy "Super Fish" set up with thruster fins, and having a blast!

There's no escapin' the 2nd childhood!  "Boyz in da 2nd 'Hood" coming to a magic theater near you soon! ::)

I keep thinking that the fishing must be really good. Mornings are socked in with fog, though. I won't head out on the ocean in that. Lots of seaweed in the water everywhere! But also lots of bait, with birds, seals, sea lions etc working the food chain, and I keep seeing small fish surfacing. There's way too much vegetation in the water right now to try to fish for surf perch off the beach. Get crap on your line every cast. Tomorrow I will go try for tidewater Kings! If its foggy, the river, if not, then the Bay.

Doing some surfing eh, at Westport?  Used to spend some time there, who are you?  I'm getting a new wetsuit, maybe today.  Haven't surfed much since an ankle injury 5 years back, it's fused now and that changes everything, balance is all screwed up cause the ankle doesn't shift, amazing how you take those things for granted till they are gone.  Still, I want to ride waves again, but am having a blast kayak fishing, got out yesterday for a bit and got into thick fog, it is here and there sometimes on sometimes off here.  No hit's just trolled for about 30 minutes, caught one Saturday while retrieving my trolling gear, about 10 lbs, nice fight.  Not sure about my trolling techniques but the coho killer, black and white seems to be great on the strait, even hooked some little ling and a greenling.

Bryan, check your PMs for my surfing ID. I started riding the waves at Westport in the spring of '79. Wasn't surfing from Aug 2001 until this summer.
Is your fused ankle your forward or back foot when surfing? Seems like you can get away with less flexing, front-to-rear, on the back foot while you are getting to your feet. Once you've achieved your stance, though, the flexing is probably equal. I have to work out to stay in shape, and do a lot of yoga style stretching, make sure that I load up on electrolytes, and stay hydrated.  Otherwise I'll maim myself and get leg cramps.
You can always get a surfin' yak. I've been considering one, myself.

If I'd had my Tarpon and gear with me yesterday, I could have practiced surf launches and landings off the beach. It was too small and mushy for regular surfing. There was a huge concentration of birds working a big bait ball in a rip  just 100 yards off the beach. I didn't have any fishing stuff with me. We were hoping to surf, and its usually too much of a hassle to load up all that yak fishing stuff for "just in case" the surf isn't decent. However, this time of the year, it might be worth it.
Makes me wonder if there is a good surfing SOT yak design that one could use for fishing. It would be a surfing design. Shaped like a large surfboard. Not a SUP. More like a Cobra Strike.  I'd be fishing "light," with one rod, minimal tackle in a small fanny pack, since I wouldn't want hatches or too many protruding lash points on a surf yak. Recessed lash points would be the way to go.

Didn't make it fishing today. Early morning tide change might have been good, but I wasn't ready to go launch by 6 am. My bad.  Wind and rain have hit now, anyway. Surf was flat this morning, too, dead flat, offering no escape. Got plumbing/waterline repairs on my garage scheduled. At least it has to do with water!   Just got the toilet drained and removed. Next is to clean that filthy cement floor. That bad plumbing nightmare just won't fix itself, no matter how long I put it off. But, I'm learning how to wear my pants down real low.
