Lake Washington and Sammamish are open for salmon and numbers should be building over the next few weeks. Some may not be the prettiest fish but it's a great opportunity to get after some salmon in calmer waters.

Z

WDFW:
"Lake Sammamish is open for salmon fishing, with a daily limit of four salmon, of which two may be chinook. All sockeye must be released, and fishing is closed within 100 yards of the mouth of Issaquah Creek. Sammamish Lake's larger neighbor, Lake Washington, opens Sept. 16 to coho fishing. Anglers will be allowed four coho per day (minimum size 12 inches) from waters north of the Highway 520 Bridge and east of the Montlake Bridge."

I heard about Lake Sammamish on the Outdoor Line this morning: http://www.theoutdoorline.com/

I'm excited to go sometime this week. Maybe Thursday morning or evening?

That is a B-10 king this year. Great  day on the water 8 kings in the boat and a coho. That fish was my biggest todate about 38 pounds. He hit like a freight traiin and took out over a hundred yards of line before he turned and charged the boat at full speed.

I've witnessed two different guides catching them by trolling with a chrome/silver flasher with a strip of chartreuse on the edge followed by two bare red/black/blue hooks with 12-18" leader.

The flasher/bare hook rig is the sockeye technique. I'd use a herring behind the flasher, or a plug for kings and cohos. I've also heard of people jigging buzz bombs and Darts, and casting spinners, for coho in Lk. WA.

I noticed about 10 boats out fishing on Thursday morning on Lake Wash when it opened. (Roughly from Yarrow Point down to the Kirkland marina and over to Sand Point in Seattle.) That evening there were only a couple boats (and not sure they were even fishing). And nobody Friday or Saturday morning, which makes me think there weren't any coho to be found.

I hit the very tail end of it last year but wasn't able to hook up. From what I've been told, the jumpers all around you should be ignored because they won't bite (thus no spinners). However, larger schools typically run underneath, from 40-70 feet.

Sounds like some guys use Wigglewarts/ Brad's wigglers, as well as cut plug herring, but only target the deeper fish. Considering how sparse the coho are right now, sounds like there isn't even a fishery yet (and may not be this fall).

From what I have heard the Ballards locks are jammed with fish.  Maybe they haven't made it into the lake yet or my information is wrong.  Is there a Ballard Fish Ladder Web Cam - tried Googling, but nothing.
