OK, so I put the Gallery back up only because it was easy enough to do it.  And I upgraded it as well, so there might be some new features.  For instance, you can add a thumbnail to your galleries ala http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?action=gallery;su=user;u=1

Just enter your gallery, click on the picture you want as a thumbnail, and there is a menu item to designate it as such.

That being said, do we really need a Gallery here?  And if we do, do we really need this one?  I personally don't like the UI for it.  However, it is one of the easier ones to install.  But, there are a ton of hosting sites on the web if you don't mind the pics being scatter across the web.  If we want a collection of pics here, then there are also alternatives to integrate that I can investigate.  These alternatives are more than just picture galleries and support video and audio as well.

In answer to your question, no.  I hate uploading pictures to multiple locations.

Is there a way for me to link Facebook pictures to the site?  That would eliminate photobucket, which is a PITA anyway.

Huh?  First you say you hate uploading pictures to multiple locations, but then you ask how to link from Facebook.

Anyways, yes, you can link to pics on facebook provided you have them set to globally viewable.

Currently I upload to facebook, because that's where all my RL friends and HS friends can look at the pictures, then I have to upload to photobucket to link them here.

If I upload them to facebook and link them from there, it eliminates photobucket, which times out a lot and is just a pain.  So that would mean uploading them only once, instead of twice.

Got it Lee.  Single location is good, which is why I wondered if we needed a gallery here.

BTW,  we currently have a limit on item size for any upload.  I'm working to get rid of that.

I would say it might not be a bad idea to keep a size cap in place. Things can slow down when people start loading large quantities of non compressed pics.

Well, what happens is that if people have to go through the extra step of re-sizing then often times they just don't post pics.

I think I can make it such that display is limited so you users don't have to download large pics.  Re-sizing for display would happen on the server end (as I think it does for many things already).

Do you all notice any annoying slowdown here anyway?  For the most part at least?

I say keep the gallery!  Facebook does a terrible job of compressing pictures when they're uploaded IMO.
