Have a friend heading up from California to Eugene next week, and is looking for info on salmon fishing in the area, either from the bank or from a kayak. Any suggestions?

There are still quite a few boats working the Siuslaw below Mapleton. Probably fish east of there as well. A friend told me a few weeks ago that jack Chinook were being caught east of Mapleton, where the river starts to get rocky. He said using spinners and eggs in the deeper pools was productive.

how far does he want to drive? if he gets a wild hair and wants to come down the Umpqua maybe we could do a drift from Scottsburg park to brandy bar, just a thought. I'm sure theres some bank fishing places farther east also.

Here's the rec. reports for the vicinity.
