Elger Bay Report

Went out to Elger Bay this evening, launching at the state park.

Right when I got out, there were huge schools showing up on my sounder.  I started out with my jigging gear, and quickly snagged a herring.  I tried jigging for a little while longer, before deciding to troll. 

I filleted the herring and put one on the lead hook of a dark green speckle-back hoochie.  Within five minutes I caught and released a 3-4# king.  I trolled around for a while longer, with one good take-down. 

The wind started picking up a little, making it hard for me to stay on the area I was seeing good schools of bait, so I packed it in before sunset.

I saw some pinks jumping right on shore, but they didn't bite my trolled offerings.  I might try to jig and cast for the pinks tomorrow.  I'm hoping to hook into some Coho, which I hear are around, so I stuck with green rather than shifting to pink gear. 

Next time I go out I will make sure to bring my Sabiki rig to make bait...it would be worth the time considering that bait is $5+ per flat.

Sounds great Espiga! Thanks for the report. And the sabiki is great when there's big schools. Sometimes if the schools are big enough, I'll just go out there with a small cooler and pull in a full cooler. (within the limit of course ) Then I cure them and chuck em in the freezer and they keep good for a long time.
