Daughter Kirsten has new Hobie yak, and is looking for a campground in southwest WA or NW Oregon that has decent swimming and kayaking access.  Any ideas?   I camped at Ike Kinswa once and loved it but it's already booked for all of July 2011.  Need some suggestions, please!!

When I was younger my family would always go to harmony rv park. It is just up the street from ike kinswa. I havent been there in a while. The first time we went there ike kinswa was full so we had to look for a new spot. We liked it so much we went back every year.
I found their website.

HaRmony looks to be RV only, no tent camping, and at $35/nite a little too p[ricey.  Need something that has good tent sites, and freshwater lake for swimming.

Just ran across reference to Timothy lake----looks nice, but no showers, which rates a minus by the women in the family.....

There are several Tacoma Power Parks on Mayfield and Riffe lakes.  Taidnapam, Mayfield, and Mossyrock

I'll jump in with my first post here, yes Suttle Lake is an excellent camping locale with kayaks in July.  Popular for the Salem area campers and nice lake for paddling and fishing.  Can be crowded but what lake isn't in July?

Clear Lake just south of the instersection of Hwy 20 & Hwy 126 has good camping and activities too.

Thanks guys!!   Looks like tossup between Timothy (maybe cold in July for grandkids swimming, at 3600 feet, upside is lots of camping spots )  and Suttle.  Both should be really beautiful.

Timothy Lake is very scenic.  Suttle Lake is great.  Clear Lake on hwy 20 is spring fed so about 33 degrees.   I haven't hit Prineville Res since a kid, it would be warmer over the Cascades for swiming...  Then south for warmer also: Lake Tahkenitch.  These last 2 would be big enough to get away from people.

Are there campgrounds on Prineville?  State Park??

Need water temps of about 68-70 or so for July swimming.  Have swum in the Sound at 55 degrees, no fun!!!

Prineville State Park is a great place in the summer, especially the cabins with air conditioning. ::)  Water is warm and lots of bass and trout.  The campground is up on the mesa with some access to the lake but a distance from the boat ramp/parking lot and beach area of the park.

I just visited the site and saw a video of the campground, looks pretty nice.  And some panfish for my grandson makes it even more attractive!

Detroit Lake has a nice State Park, and there are a couple of more primitive campgrounds around it.  Warm enough to swim in by mid summer.
If you are interested in the Oregon coast, there is Coffenbury Lake at Ft. Stevens near Astoria.
Clay Meyers (Whalen Island).  Swimming might be a tad cold though.
Devils Lake in Lincoln City.
