5 days vacation from fishing is about all i could handle... ;)

Launched at Charleston and fished my new favorite perch spot. Was pleasently and "heavily" surprised at the Cabbie that hammered my sand shrimp on my light line pole, glad i had my net, forgot my lip grippers.he was barely hooked with the little hook i was using to catch perch. Caught a bunch of perch and the little greenie.

It was a beautiful winter day and i fished, doesn't get much better.

no video today, forgot my cam mount for the kayak. just took AOTY pics

goldendog was catching a cuttie or two at the same time an hour up the road at Woahink, good job Dave.

Whats a Cabbie?   Also, what types of places do you fish for perch? Around pilings, or near the jetties?  I live in Charleston right on the water. Ive tried perch fishing a few times but never had much luck. I caught a few up the slough at Valino island.

Cabbie is a Cabezon. I chave been catching my Perch around the jetties, never had much luck around the pilings for some reason.

Roy, in case you're wondering...

this fish of yours isn't actually a pile perch (Rhacochilus vacca), it's a striped seaperch (Embiotoca lateralis).   Pile perch get a bit larger, are often found near pilings in the spring, and are notorious non-biters (but there are some tricks).  Striped seaperch are more of a jetty fish and tend to take bait more readily.

Thanks Brian, I was wondering exactly what specie it was. Are they called Rainbow Perch also? or is that even another type?

They are pretty ravenous and hammer the offering with reckless abandon.

Gonna concentrate some effort this year to get the really big pinkfins that come in Spring.

Rainbow seaperch is another species Hypsurus caryi

here's the page from that CA pier fishing site.

I have no idea what a "pinkfin" is.  Do you mean redtail surf perch?
