In my quest for the best Lingcod plastics I have tried to gather some of the largest offerings out there and will be testing them out against each other this year.

This batch of pictures was just comparing single and double tails.

Which have you guys used? How many can you pick out by shape?
Any that I missed that you all use?

The two red tails are for size comparison. They are standard 4" and 6" tails. The lead head is a 8oz.

So what is the brand and size of each?

#1 _________ #2 _____________#1 ____________ #2 __________ #3 _________ #4

Aside from adding a skirt what other things do you do to customize your jigs?

There can be only one ... #3 single tail ... Kalin's BigN.

You're bringing this selection up to Alaska in August, right?

I am trying not to bring a truck of gear but I have a lot of things I want to try. Found a place to get BigN's for about 2 bucks a pop and they have 6 or 8 colors....

Is it August yet?

Adding a skirt is a great place to start, I'm partial to anything that glows, Barbie's favorite color is a close 2nd.  From there I have a few other things I do to increase their effectiveness/attractiveness.  I like the 6 or the 8 inch versions the best, anything smaller and you have to mess with hooking a lot of  rockfish and anything bigger you don't get the fun of  hooking many of those middle of the road lings (26-32")

I've had good results with Berkely Gulp! 6" grubs.  Lingcod are scarce in the area I spent most of my time targetting them, but the rockfish wouldn't stay off this stuff.  White glow worked well, and I'm going to try Nuclear Chicken as well (it glows too)

(un)fortunately, it's effective on everything - sculpin, dogfish, flounder, sole, starfish (ok maybe that was just the hook!), etc.  They even go after it when the tail has been completely eaten away.

Other options for added rigging, other than skirting ...

1) Eyes.

2) Rig it mudraker style with an 8 ounce torpedo weight.  The collapse/expand/collapse/expand motion that results when you jig it can be deadly.

3) Jighead colors.

4) Dress it up with scent and/or bait.

5) Stinger hooks.

5) Stinger hooks.

That's my favorite addition, then you at least get to see what keeps eating the tail off!

I've had some great success with spinner blades too.  They add color/flash plus sound/vibration

Seattle Marine Supply
We have a whole sale account and the sell them Bulk. I think they retail them for 2.29 or so. Colors range from white to black to chartreuse to a bright darker green. I'll get one of each and post

I am going to see if I can get a deal on a full case. Let me know if you want/need some.

I am waiting for ling opening to see how this guy works out .....

Should add lots of sound and motion as it stands on and lays down. Probably going to loose a few but they only cost a few bucks to make.
