Loved watching the set form up outside of what you obviously had thought was the outside.  Good stuff!!!

Were you pedadling and just paddling?

Fun to watch.  I actually was moving forward in my chair trying to push the yak over the breaking wave.

DB is where the fp comes in, nobody made it out of PC.

We all concluded that eventually with persistence we would/could have made it out, but some of those larger sets were breaking a good distance offshore. It's much easier to pick your shot watching surfers bob from inside, than peaking over your shoulder from outside. We would have been picked apart on the way back in if it didn't lay down. So Rawkfish and I rolled down to DB.

The audio of from the Playsport is entertaining, but Nell Carter belting "Gimme a Break" might have been more appropriate.

More to come.

So I didn't loose any gear except a hook sharpener I think.  My Sounder screen was cracked due to poor positioning and from the ensuing salt-water washing machine is now toast.  I had it positioned in a way that put the screen right up against my GPS mount so that happened before I got smashed.  At one point I was facing the shore, watching my kayak as I was making my way back to it and noticed the mirage drive was hanging off the side by the leash.  I thought, "I'm sure glad I had that thing leashed on!"  And with that thought, almost as if it was waiting for me to think that, the leash snapped as another spiller pushed my kayak again.  I practically dove to the spot it had snapped and luckily found the drive.  So no, I didn't have the drive locked in and ready to go which was probably my biggest mistake.  Had I used the drive I most certainly would have met that wave ten feet further out which is probably what would have been required for me to simply pop right over it.

As he mentioned, Ling Banger and I headed down to Depoe Bay (where we should have been this whole time) and get a couple hours in on the salt.  We were out there for a little less than three hours and did pretty well.  Pics and more video to follow...

Is your Mirage drive type I or type II?  Does that mean it was down in the slot???

It's a type II. Our first attempt he didn't have it locked in, because we were getting knocked back into the shallows. He retied the leash and locked it in on the second try after getting out a ways and was surprised how much more control and acceleration he had in the impact zone. Maybe he'll just tow the Hobie paddle behind him for a drift anchor once he clears 5' of water.

That was a great video.  Although you didn't get out at PC, it still looked like fun trying.  I'm glad you guys were able to salvage the trip and get out at DB.

Rawky, I'm seeing in your video what I fully expect to feel in my Revo if I ever get the chance to hit PC again.  That Revo steers like a ball on ice compared to my T13 if just using a paddle to steer with.  The keel is too small to maintain a straight line without fighting with it.  Rudder down, and the Revo kills the T13.   On the other hand it may be easier to control the Revo coming back through the surf zone over the T13.   The keel on the T13 gets owned pretty quick by swells that sneak up me.

Oh, and why are you using the cheap Hobie paddle instead of your good paddle from your old X-Factor?  To me the Hobie paddle feels like a twin tipped Dollar Tree spatula compared to my Dick's Sporting Goods "Field and Stream" el'cheapo paddle that I use on my T13.   One of these days I'll get myself a good Werner!!

That was great!  What a quality video!  I actually found myself holding my breath when the yak rolled and the camera showing the underwater footage.  I liked the helmet use, I'm going to be sure and get one.
Thanks,
Scott
