So after the beat-down, Ling Banger suggested we head down to Depoe Bay.  With one last long gaze at the surf I said, "Let's do it.".  The drive was not bad at all; I thought we were going to hit traffic in Lincoln City, but the traffic seemed to be only in the opposite direction.

We pushed out through the channel and were greeted by a washing machine of waves.  On the drive down I was worried the wind was going to kick up since we were approaching the mid afternoon, but it wasn't too bad.  We didn't really bother with trying to head north or south once we were outside the channel.  We pretty much got out and dropped lines.  I started off by picking up a few blacks and then hooked into a nice sized cabby.  Since my sounder was trashed from the wave ride this morning, I was just going off my previous fish spots on my GPS.  This actually did pretty well although I really missed knowing how deep I was fishing.

I started picking up a few underlings and then peddled out to where LB was.  We worked the south corner around some kelp for a little while and I picked up a decent black and a couple of lings, one of which was a couple of inches past legal and the other looked just barley there so I tossed him back.  I hooked a beautiful red irish lord and then decided to head back closer to the channel and fish my earlier spot a little more before heading back in.  Hooked a couple more underlings and called it good since it seemed like the wind was picking up a little more and the sun was starting to droop in the sky.

Over all it was a pretty successful day.  After less than three hours I had a gallon zip-lock bag full of fish for the freezer.  Thanks to Ling Banger for the idea to head south.  It was awesome - a morning of playing(and getting smashed  :D) in the surf, and an afternoon of great fishing.

Whoooooo! Man, that's some good TV! I love that you guys would not take no for an answer, and packed up and headed down to depoe bay. That's persevereance! What was the swell height, interval and wind chop for that day?

If NWKA had an "Oscars" that first one of the surf exploits would be nominated for Best Picture in my opinion! :o

I like the rod holder next to your left hip for holding your rod while you deal with fish. What kind is it and how do you have that rigged. Pics would be awesome.

This is an idea I took from one of the Hobie guys down south.  I'll do a post in the Drillin' and Cuttin' board once I get all the pics I need to show the whole system clearly.  I'm still not quite finished with the whole thing yet.

That's the same thing I use the recessed rod holders on T13 for.  It's nice to have somewhere to stick your rod when you need both hands.

Knowing Rawk I'm guessing its a RAM mount of some kind.  I use the molded rod holder on my Adventure for the same thing but its just a tad to far behind me to be really practical

Nailed it.  ;D   It's the Revolution Tube holder.  The trick though, is finding a base that fits on the ridge along the top of each side of the storage well.

way to "stick and stay and make it pay". it would have been nice to join you guys in depoe but the QT with the girls was more important, they loved the video and told all their friends. they always thought the old man was crazy, but now they know its true. thanks for all your work posting the vids.

we stuck around thru high slack and can say the situation only degraded. we made the right call

Hell ya, that surf video is awesome! I thought you had that last one, until it stood all the way up and I thought no way is he going to make that now, and then the tumble! Sweet! Thanks for posting that, and nicely done down at Depoe as well.
I like the over-the-shoulder view, do you have a thread on how that's rigged up?

Yeah K Jr. it's cool you got some time in with the girls. You have lots of years left to kayak fish, but the days when your kids want to hang out with dear old dad are precious and numbered.
