Why use a BulletBobber from Kayaks or Canoes?

Any shallow water paddling angler knows (or soon learns) that you spend a lot of time with the paddle in hand correcting for wind and/or currents. Reading the currents, judging the wind and making that perfect “set-up stroke” is essential so you have a chance to make a cast or two before you need to pick up the paddle again.  The problem is solved with a simple little invention called the BulletBobber.  They are mini planer boards with directional control and provide what I call “continuous finesse trolling”.  Trolling with baits or lures straight behind the boat works ok but snags can be a problem and running over the fish can turn them off.  You could troll by trailing regular floats to avoid snags but you are still running over the fish before you can present your bait to the fish.  BulletBobbers are mini planer boards that flip direction when given a little tug.  With your rod or rods in rod holders all you need to do is give them a little bump to flip the side they are on.  You really can think of these little tools as a way to be fishing close to 100% of the time, from put in to take out, you can have baits in the water.  The paddle becomes your remote control.  Think about it, you need to have the paddle in your hand most of the time anyhow so why not use it to continuously control where your baits or lures go.

These little planers will plane out to the side if you paddle a typical lure speed but will point up and tuck in behind you if you go faster.  This will allow you to shoot thru rapids without reeling in.  Once your through the exciting paddling parts you are set to fish again by slowing back down to lure speed.  I know what your thinking – tangles and more tangles when using 2 rods. No problem - put one line out further by twice the depth of the bait on the other will provide enough clearance. Being out to the side and at different distances in back of you (or in front of you – see next paragraph!) it is ok if they switch sides at any time. If you hook up, with either rod the fish will, 99% of the time head toward deeper water and the remaining rod MAY not be a problem.  What is fishing if there weren’t surprises!  While using your paddle and your head to keep the baits where you want you should also be thinking about what you will do if you hook up. If you hook up at the top of rapids it can be tricky, especially if your already in the fast current.  That’s what I call the danger zone!  Put down the paddle in rapids to grab your rod and you could get wet and if you keep paddling you find yourself in the pool below the pool your fish is in.  You can back paddle to safe harbor or if it is shallow throw out the anchor (feet) but having an emergency hook-up plan for the worst case scenario in advance of any obstacle provides safety and adds to the thrill of showing off your paddling / fishing comprehension skill!

There are multiple ways to fish with your paddle in hand if you have BulletBobbers.  One very effective way to troll is by back paddling in the current just enough so they will plane out to the side and out in front of you.  I strongly suggest you let this thought sink in, if the current is going faster then you the differential in your speed with the current’s speed will make them plane out to the side in front of you and you can see them without kinking your neck.  With rods in rod holders and baits drifting relatively the same speed you are drifting you can now give them a little bump and make them run side to side fully covering the area down stream from bank to bank.

If you need something bigger and for deeper water try the DualFin.

Thanks for helping me add a product to the list of sh*t I won't ever buy .....

BTW we like stories of people fishing from Kayaks and catching fish ..... Pictures give you bonus points.

Advertising that isn't paid for will cross you off my list of companies to do business with....

I heard Jason wanted to outfit his Kayak fishing fleet with these .... would they be good for hand lining?

I would ordinarily move a blatant advertisement without any community meat (such as this one) to the doghouse.  However, I'm really enjoying the resulting caustic rhetoric so I'll leave it here as a community chew toy.

Do you really expect this troll to come back?

I don't give people like this much credit. But that's just me!   ;)

Really Dude, haven't we had enough of your DRAMA? You already got Jason to leave NWKA, you just can't keep yourself from bashing on him.  It shows really poor taste on your part to continue on with this CR#P.  Maybe you should just drop it, and leave the poor man alone.
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.

+1 Jason is a good guy from what I know of him. His mistake was trying to assume responsibility for stuff that wasn't his to take responsibility for. His intentions were nothing less than good. You can't fault somebody for trying to prevent tragedy even if they give you a rash in the process.

For you "new" guys, this is the second time Jself/Jason/Nanook has left in a huff.  First time, if I remember right, was when he butted heads with Zee regarding which was faster his SINK or a Hobie Adventure... ego can be a rough task master....  Needless to say I won't be shocked when he pops back up down the road with a new moniker and more of the same SINK sunshine to spread around.

I vote we let sleeping dogs do what they do best....
