Just moved here from TN, and dying to learn about the area and saw I missed the last meeting.  Any plans for another meeting?

I have so many questions!  I felt like the only kayak fisher in Knoxville so I just have spent the last 2 years making things up  :banjo:

First, Welcome. Major change in store. Get a copy of the regs and study them like you are getting ready for the bar exam, 'cause this is one of the most regulated fisheries in the US.

second, Be ready for a major learning curve. fishermen here speak a language all their own and sometimes it vairies from region to region... and mean the same thing.

third, it's a predominately cold waters fishery. be prepared to gear up for cold water immersion. plenty of articles on site to help out with that.

where you would think 1-2 ounces as a basser is heavy, thats considered light here. same thing with depth. 30 feet is deep for Knoxville, but the average depth here can be 75-150 feet or more. depends on whats in season and how you are fishing. with a downrigger on the boat, some of our members go down around 300!!

OK, didnt mean to scare you, or make this sound so rough...Again, Welcome...

for regs, you can pick up a print copy at any place that sells fishing licenses, such as Fred Meyer, Bi Mart, Wal Mart, Sportmans Warehouse, Outdoor Emporium, etc.

online here; http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/

hopefully the seattle area guys will soon chime in and help out with the other details. when home i;m pretty much a south sounder and seldom go up that far.....mostly cause i absolutely hate dealing with the traffic....

have fun, there's lots to explore

Find the Outdoor Emporium at 1701 4th Ave S., Seattle, WA  98134 (206) 624-6550 Mon-Fri 9-7 Sat-Sun 9-5.

There are two stores, the Seattle one is called "Outdoor Emporium", the Tacoma one called "SportCo".

Hi Tenhunter,
I live on Alki and have grown up in West Seattle. I have been kayak fishing for only two years so I am still learning about fishing form the yak but I have been fishing this area for my entire life. I would be happy to meet up with you and tell you all the easy launches I know in West Seattle. There are quite a few great places around here to go!

you can PM me or email me [email protected]

I'm in west Seattle quite often and would love to meet up with you guys too. You can launch pretty much any beach with public access. Good easy area to get used to the salt.

Looking forward to getting my copy.  Wonder what the non-resident $$ will be this year.
