got a horn. will this flag work?

It works as a visual aid, but I think I'd avoid using a "Diver Down" flag as it has a specific meaning when out on the water, and I don't think you should fly it if there really is no diver down.

you're right, of course. I'll rig something to slide over it.

Also, another reason for you all to consider coming down to Albion at the end of July.

-Allen

Speaking of which....
This year I am really focusing hard on getting my kayak/camp trailer built to my standards, so most fishing opportunities are being squashed daily by me to get this done.

However........
Next year I'm hoping to get down to a NCKA event, and Albion looks like a cool launch/campground based on Google Maps.
Keep me in the loop on that one for 2012.

I am having a problem signing up for the ORC. When I click the pal pal button on the home page, and sign in to pay pal, there's no reference to the ORC? Any suggestions?

What?   No fish fry?

Pizza is cool with me.
Is the plan to replace the potluck with pizza, or supplement it?

Where the heck did this come from?

I'll have my $$ in by next Friday... I've got an expensive weekend in front of me that I need to take care of first.

-Before entering "the hole" you should (must!) sound a long horn blast (4-6 seconds).   Yes, please pick up a horn for this use.

I know the regs, but IMO those air horns are worthless unless you are concerned about running into another kayak. CBY sounded his from the E side of the bridge, I wasn't passed the breakwater and I could barely hear it. It was early and quiet on 101 and no wave crash on the rocks. There's no way a pb under way is going to hear us. The can air horns just dont have enough low end to reverb off the rocks and carry to the other end of the hole the way a 12v horn does.

Are there any better options?

maybe you can find what you're looking for here; http://www.thefind.com/sports/info-safety-horn

had thought about one of the mouth operated horns, but not sure if it would be loud enough or legal since it's a rescue safety device....
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

Someone had one of those mouth operated ones last year, and I could barely hear it sitting 10 feet away.  Not sure if it was operated correctly or not.

+1 the address to make payment to is not visible. I could probably figure it out by looking at my payment history, but a tweak is needed please.

Ah...   :-[ as soon as the home page pops up I always just click on the "show unread posts since last visit" link next to my avatar and assumed the link would be in the announcement post.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

*** I have watched boats, of all sizes, come and go through the hole for some time now.  I almost NEVER hear a horn.  Now that I have a radio, I DO hear announcements each and every time any boat enters or leaves the harbor.

I talked with Officer Reily at the C.G. office in the harbor yesterday.  She said that although the horn IS a requirement, most don't use it and that is okay.  She said (understandably) the radio is a must for safety.   Announce your intent, then listen for any response (might not be one) from other boaters, the Coast Gaurd officer on duty, or even Tradewinds Charter office.  Their building affords a view of both ends of the throat.

Hope that helps.
