Could probably rig them drop shot style above a 6oz ball.

Sort of defeats the purpose of having a jighead ...

-Allen

I've used the swimbaits drop shot style using non-weighted snelled hooks with a 2oz ball.  It works best when the current is making it difficult to vertically jig.

I wasn't saying that dropshotting isn't an effective method, just that I wouldn't resort to dropshotting an already weighted swimbait.  Not only does it defeat the purpose of having a weighted jig, it also somewhat defeats the purpose of why I might dropshot an unweighted swimbait.  I sometimes dropshot an unweighted swimbait because the action it impart is different than a jig head.  It sort of flutters on its side.  A weighted swimbait will deaden this effect.

Hi,

Received clearance from the wife to make it down to the ORC this year. Anyone heading down from Seattle? I plan to blow off work on Friday and make it a long weekend. Look forward to my first ORC!

Cheers,

Tomas

Tomas, glad you can make it.
Are you bringing your Dorado?

Hi Brian,

Yes I will be bringing my Dorado and my Easy Rider Double if the family decides to join.  You are welcome to take the Dodo it for a spin.

Thanks Tomas,

I've actually taken a Dodo for a spin before... it was very nice and very fast for a SOT.  I'm sure there will be others who will simply want to gawk at it for awhile.

I will handle the waivers.  Find me Friday night or let me know you want to meet me at the ramp on Saturday morning.  If you don't let me know you want to meet Saturday morning, I may just go fishing without you.  If you don't see me to sign the waivers, you don't get a captains bag.

Oh .. Big Hammer is AWESOME!  I got the bunch, and I mean A BUNCH of swimbaits in today.   So you'll have a few of these in the bags.

Left column is 5.5" versions in Glowbug, Sardine, Atomic Punk, Strawberry
Right column is 6.4" versions Larry's Heron, Olive Herring, Strawberry, Lemon Lime

I suggest you bring some of your favorite swimbait jig heads to match up with these puppies.  Big Hammers were all the rage at the recent NCKA Gimme Shelter tourney.  They caught a bunch of fish that placed, including a couple of bonus pacific butts.  2-4 ounce triangle heads work well!!!

-Allen
Hope to meet up fri nite & sign the waiver. I'd like to try some of those swim baits.
I can bring a bunch of 3oz and 4oz triangle head jigs I poured up.  I would be willing to sell/trade them to anyone interested... hey my friend, special for you today only ;D ;D
I'll hafta get some more tri-heads. For those interested, I'm bringing knife jigs for schwag & trade.

I've modified these with split rings on the hook side to help prevent fish from levering off. I'll post new pics & jig weight soon.

Hi,

Is there a group site reserved at Chinook Bend RV resort? If not is there a general area that Kayak folks will camp? I have a camper van but will probably set up a tent as well. Is this possible in the tent area or is it "walk in" only?

Thanks

Tomas

The tent camping area is walk-in only, but there is room to pitch a tent and your van in the RV slots or right along the parking area.  The area looks much larger on their map than it is in person.  Anywhere in the RV or tent camping area is within a brief walk.

Last year parking was at a premium and we had half the people we do this year.  I spoke with the folks at Chinook Bend yesterday and asked that an auxiliary parking area be set up.  They're good with that.

They also agreed to not charge any "visitors" as long as they're not launching kayaks from the property.
