I can't view that page either

Try now.  I think I fixed it for all 3 of you that would have had problems viewing it.

Hi,

Sorry to be a Rube but what are the rules of competition and general accepted practices for this prestigeous event? Is there a link with this info?  Is there the option to catch and release and still compete?

Thanks,
Tomas

The rules have been added to the contest announcement on the Home Page: http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/page,ORC.html
In a nutshell, you just have to launch at the Depoe Bay Harbor, hit the weigh-in station before 2PM and can't use any assistance (motor, sail, help from another person in landing your fish)

You will need to bring your biggest fish to the weigh-in station if you want it to count.  I plan on C&R'ing anything under 7 or 8lbs.

In the spirit of maintaining some suspense and ensuring that everyone signs a waiver before fishing;

- Every contestant will be given a numbered poker chip when they turn in their waiver
- Keep this chip safe!
- This chip must accompany your entry at the weigh in station.
- Weighed fish will be recorded under the number on the chip.
- The chip will also be used to claim your swag bag. (Not all bags will contain the same gear and numbers will be assigned randomly)

I'm coming down from Bellingham, WA.  I was wondering if anyone has recommendations as to whether I should take 99W through Tigard and McMinnville, or take I-5 all the way down to 34 and then West thru Corvalis to Newport, then back North to Depoe Bay.

Last year I took 99W and remember lots and lots of traffic through the Tigard region.  BUT, the South (34) route looks like it's outta the way.  But you get more interstate.  So, I'm torn.  Any help appreciated!

TTM, when are you coming down?

You shouldn't have to go all the way down to Newport.     You can go down to Salem and over on 22 then 18 to 101 in Lincoln City.   I'm pretty sure it'll be the second option for you if you do a Google map search for directions to the campground.

edit: I checked... you don't get two options from Bellingham.  Try directions from Portland to the campground and choice the second set of directions.

Ah yeah, the Salem route looks the best. I'm actually heading down tomorrow.  If I'm gonna drive 8 hours I'm darn well gonna stay awhile!  Thanks for the help my brotha's!

PS bsteves, doing some freestyle canoeing at ORC? :P

You can get two options, Google maps got a bit more user-friendly.  Just click the route line and drag it to Salem, it updates the directions.  Super easy.

No fish caught with wearing masks will count....

Keep a few extra fish for the taco cook off too .... if they are too small you gotta fillet your own!

If you can make it, I will personally guide you out on the Big Blue ... that is if you can deal with launching late (making sure waivers are signed), coming in early (weigh station), and someone who doesn't even know how to spell Depoe Bay.   ::)
