Woohoo!!! First prize will be an Ocean Kayak Trident 13!!!

-Allen

Ka-Ching!   You are the schwag master polepole!

BTW: For those of you who've never attended an ORC, even if you don't win, place or show, you almost always go home with more gear than you could have purchased for the entry fee.

Ummm ... I failed to mention that the AOTY grand prize will be an Ocean Kayak Ultra!!!

But, we have important matters to attend to.  Which local brewery do I need to call to get a keg of what?

Did we have a hookup with Rogue in the past?

FYI, NCKA's Albion Open has Bear Republic sporting Racer 5 (a current favorite of mine) for the tourney.  I expect nothing less for NWKA!!!!  Also, another reason for you all to consider coming down to Albion at the end of July.

I wouldn't mind doing pizza or fried fish on Saturday after the tourney.  I never really like the idea of having to make dinner after a long day of fishing.  Maybe I'm just lazy.  ;D

I believe there was supposed to be some kind of deal with Rogue for the last ORC, but it didn't work out for some reason.  Rogue would be my first choice for beverages - I loves me some Dead Guy Ale!

Having been spoiled by Next Adventure's post sturgeon tournament pizza, I have to agree with rawkfish.  The last think I want to do after fishing all day is cook.  Though I could be persuaded to intern some Dead Guy ... in Ma Belly!   ;D

Spot,
If Rogue doesn't come through for us let me know. I have a pretty good beer connection and should be able to get a keg of just about anything at cost or so.

What?   No fish fry?

Pizza is cool with me.
Is the plan to replace the potluck with pizza, or supplement it?

We may want to get a solid head count of all that is coming, spousal units, kiddos, etc.
Maybe require this info to be added in the sign up when we click to pay.

I like the pizza idea.  Saves a bunch of hassle after a long day on the water.

Paypal signup is now up on the front page.  I'll be adding to this event page over the weekend, adding details, other sponsors, etc.

Please add a note when you pay telling me what your handle is, and if you are bring others not participating in the derby so we can get a good headcount for planning purposes.

I just got off the phone with the Officer in Charge at the Depoe Bay Harbor.  He had received some phone calls from concerned citizens about kayakers going through the hole.  This was more of a courtesy/educational call and he asked that I pass this info onto you all.  Some of this is cut/paste from previous posts.

They weren't yet aware of our event on June 18.  They are now!!!

- The local charter captains would really appreciate you flying a flag when on the water.

- When heading in or out, radio your intentions to exit the harbor on Chanel 80.

- While passing under the bridge, stay as close as is safe to the side in case a vessel under power missed your call.

-Before entering "the hole" you should (must!) sound a long horn blast (4-6 seconds).   Yes, please pick up a horn for this use.

- Once outside the slot, immediately paddle a little south or north so that you're out of the shipping lane between the buoys and the harbor entrance.

-Allen

I'm glad you covered this again for this year's event!

I hope you sold the Harbor Master on the idea that this event works as a training venue for people who will be using this harbor in the future.  It ends up being a real Win/Win situation for everybody.

I'd like to make it a requirement that ALL COMPETITORS MUST FLY A SAFETY FLAG while participating in this event.
got a horn. will this flag work?

It works as a visual aid, but I think I'd avoid using a "Diver Down" flag as it has a specific meaning when out on the water, and I don't think you should fly it if there really is no diver down.
