I wish I weighted him, he was a hog and then some.  After cleaning it I looked in his belly and it was full or crabs.

Those Cabbies love crabs.  I always wondered what a crab does when it gets swallowed.  Is there something in a fish's stomach that puts them under?  Seems like they would wreck a fish's guts.  Does the fish crush them first?

The crushing is done by phyrangeal teeth.  These are small teeth on the bones in the back of the throat of many fish.

I imagine sometimes what happens is they get into such a feeding frenzy that they eat them so fast they don't have time to crush them.

Nice fish! Rockfish and forage fish are still a tad sparse up here yet. Another month before any decent rodnreel action in our neck of the woods. Lings don't open till July.

It was my second time in the salt, but first time on the Pacific without laying down a chum slick.  As long as the ocean stays flat, I'll be back there soon.

always thought it was just two plates under skin grinding together.

That place is crawling with cabezon right now.  Tuesday we must have caught thirty or more between the two of us.  Each of us took a 28 incher home.  According to the scale on my buddy's lip gripper they were a touch over 14 pounds.  Cabbies fight hard too.
