Hit the beach at about seven and took my time getting setup.  Helped a dory guy with his boat and snapped some pics of the exposed reefs with starfish.  Pelagic showed up and we hit the surf.  Jammer and TXPaddler showed up right as we were about to launch.  Nice and easy surf launch!

On the way out, I stopped and chatted with another kayakfisher in an OK trident with a big Next Adventure sticker on the side.  He was working the back side of the rock and said he was picking up a lot of blacks and small lings.  I mentioned NWKA and he hadn't heard of it.  Nice guy, hope he joins up!

Pelagic and I worked some reefs and ditches out past the rock.  I picked up a nice yelloweye and a little later found a steady bite of blacks.  I also CPR'd a nice copper rockfish.  I pulled up a 29" ling that had a bunch of eggs stuck to its jaw and belly.  I must have pulled him right off of the nest he was guarding.  Soon after that Jammer and TX came out past the rock.  After another couple of drifts I had my second ling which ended up at 32.5".  The second ling started to roll after I grabbed it with the lip grips which wasn't unusual.  What was crazy though was that it jerked its body so hard when it rolled that it snapped its bottom jaw which was caught in the lip gripper.  I brought it on board and it rolled hard again, breaking its jaw again so now the shattered cartilage was sticking out of the skin.  It made me cringe hearing it!  Ouch!  I C&R'd another ling at about 25" and a few more rockfish and then headed to the rock.

The wind was starting to pick up so hanging out around the rock sounded nice.  I switched to lighter gear and C&R'd some more rockfish around the north side of the rock.  Then switched to even lighter gear(bass rod) and started dragging a nice big weedless plastic bass lure through the kelp.  I felt a good bump and set the hook.  Line started peeling off and I started to get nervous that this thing was going to wrap me up in the kelp.  I started pedaling towards it to get vertical.  It certainly didn't feel like a rockfish so I'm now thinking this thing is going to bite right through my 8lb. line.  It slowly starts to come up and I see it's a decent ling!  It was about 24" and sure was a fun fight!  A couple of pics for Kayak Wars and back he went.

While hanging around the rock a couple guys in Hobie Lanai's showed up and started fishing.  These guys hadn't heard of the forum either.  Nice guys, hope they find the forum as well.

TX, that pic of Jammer and myself coming in with the cape in the background is awesome! Thanks for putting those pics up!

Had a great day fishing with everyone!

Sick!

Several encounters with kayak fishing folks that haven't even heard of NWKA is cool.
Hopefully get more folks to join up and add to the plastic navy.

Great pics and write up as usual Jeff!

Just got back into town.  Today I fished a bit north of PC ;) and had a repeat of Sunday. Good bite all day but you had to work a little for them, would have been better without the wind.  I'm also sooo done with 25lb for my top shot.  Its time for some 40!

Sweet haul, and don't worry there were still a few fish to be found today.

Thanks guys!

Where they beach locals, or urban commuters like us?

The first guy I talked to said he was from somewhere other than PC, I can't remember the name of the town he said.  I remember thinking it was inland a bit, but not too far away.  Of the other guys I talked to later in the day, one was from PC and the other was probably visiting since he said he was from Tennessee or something.

So rad! Great pics. I like fishing the kelp beds with bass gear too. Super fun.

I think it was a yellow eye, either way, it had to go back.  I was fishing at the depth I normally catch those things at which is roughly 90 to 100 ft.
