After witnessing the bite kinda turn off on the Willy for the last couple days, I decided today may be a great day to return. It was not a bad to come back. I got down to my launch near my house around 10ish and headed upstream to one of many nearby shelf's. After making a few passes trolling prawn spinners near the docks, I decided to make another pass, but troll out, quite a bit further off the docks. I had what felt like a couple quick snaps back on my rod finally turned into pull, strip, pull and we were off. After a 10 minute struggle and plenty of watchful eyes nearby, I had my first view of what i would guess was 33-35 wild chinook. After a quick release and body racing with testosterone, I re-rigged a new prawn, blade and got back after it. Things seemed pretty slow for the next hour or so, I decided to trek up to another shelf around the corner. After spending an hour or so and enjoying my lunch on my own private little beach, I decided to head back to my starting point for another attempt. I decided to throw on a brighter Chartrouse blade and fresh prawn with a perfect spin and dropped down until I was tapping bottom. After bouncing my way up river about 3/4 the distance of the shelf, it was Thump, Thump, fish on!!! After spending a few minutes dragging this springer out into the channel away from the docks, she was eventually in the net. She measured 30.5 and seemed very fat for the size. I LOVE SPINGERS!!!!

You are making me jealous!  Everyone is getting out catching Springers and I have to go to Atlanta for the week.  That is a beauty.  I need to get out and try next weekend.

Awesome Jammer, have to agree on the bite being lost on the Willy.  Looks like you found it though.  Hope this is an indication for the season, when it's on here fish here, when it's gone you will be getting some PM's.

Anyone's welcome to fish with me. Come on down(or up river i guess) and I will show around some of the local Milwaukie/Lake Oswego shelf's. I can usually squeeze my fishing sessions into 2-4 hours at a pop. Because of my young kids I usually try and get back pretty quick. This way things stay cool with my wife too. Prawn Spinners are definitely the ticket where I fish upriver. I always try and make it out once or twice after work during the week and once or twice on the weekend. If anyone's interested and your a local or a newby to our site, hit me up with a PM and we can meet up. We could also join together as a group one day over the weekend and unleash some serious hell. This springer season should be EPIC!!!!!

Also, My fillet skills have improved drastically ever since I picked up and started using a 9.5" fillet knife. I just picked up the plastic white handled one at Fishermans for $15 and it works awesome. Well worth the $...

As far as fillet knives go I have found that I prefer a few different types depending on what fish is on the block. My most versatile knife is an 8" straight fillet knife that is fairly stiff. Though I have warmed up to curved blades lately. The most important thing if you are using industrial knives is to use a steel often. Those knives tend to have much softer steel and the edge will roll on you pretty quickly.
I'll bring a full quiver to ORC if guys want to play with a few different types.

I was out under the Sellwood bridge this morning. There was some action, mostly from trollers.  I had one on but lost it.  Seems that I will need to learn the finesse of controlling the boat, fighting the fish and netting all at the same time.  Exciting though! The shelf to the Southwest of the bridge seemed to be where the bite was.
