Model:   BWC 2201-2 70
Throws:   1/2 - 6 oz
Line:      10-50#
Length:   7' 0"
Pieces:   2
Action:   Medium

Highly recommended.  Reasonable price.

I picked up one of these at the beginning of the year as a sturgeon/halibut/jigging stick.  I put my Abu 6601C4 on it and it has turned into my go-to stick.  So far this year I've been leaving the Berkley Airs at home.  When my Abu BG 7001 HS arrive (!!) I'll swap out the reel.

With the 50# braid it's sensitive enough to feel everything, but still has enough backbone for heavy loads.  Not that I have hauled in any particularly heavy fish, but it handles huge wads of kelp well.

I'll probably pick up a spare sometime this season.

Thanks for the review. Looks like I need to purchase one of these.

This is the same as my sturgeon setup...Tiger Stick, 7001HS, and 50# PP line. Much better than previous versions, especially for the price.

Ditto for me.  It is my go to sturgeon stick.  I was surprised how sensitive it is and, for the price, would highly recommend it.

I love my Tiger Stick!

It's what I used to win the ORC2008 and the NA Sturgeon Tournaments.
Sensitive enough to register those cold water Sturgeon nibbles.
Ample backbone to pull em off the bottom.

Thanks! Good information. I haven't fished the ocean yet and have been gear browsing, that 7' rod is one I was eyeing on bass pro shops and wondered if its in the ballpark. Waay too many rods to look at. Might get that rod n a reel after I get a dry suit or a paired upper lower set.

All but one of my rods (salt or fresh) are Ugly Stiks.  I have a tiger I use for heavier jigging in the salt.

If you're on a shoestring budget (putting money towards safety gear) I'd also suggest an 8' Diawa salmon/steelhead rod for lings when using <2.5oz jigs.  For $15 you can't beat them and they are fairly sensitive; I wouldn't use them for finesse but they are just fine for jigging.

I have a 6'6" Tiger Lite that was labeled for 'jigging'.  With braided line I can feel every tiny little bump from the bottom and the fish.  It's a single-piece rod, extremely sturdy, and still lightweight.  Haven't had anything bigger than copper rockfish (except one monster that snapped 30# mono) but so far so good!

Fred Meyer (at least the one in my area) has all rods and combos for 10% off. Regular price ~ $60, after 10% ~ $54 and before tax.
