When we got back to the launch this evening, my GPS informed my tired butt that we had paddled for 8.5 hours and went 12.3 miles in pursuit of the wiley spring Chinook . My day was however amply rewarded with a very nice "double"with both 12lb and  24.6 lb Spring Chinooks. My buddy John's rod didn't get taken down today but on the next trip it will be him with the luck and I will be the one taking the photos.  Generally speaking, I would say the bite on the Willamette out of St. Johns was pretty slow today. It just so happened that it was a good day for me which I am very thankful for. I guess if you are willing to work for them, there are fish out there to be taken.

Craig, I was using plug cut herring today. Seemed to still work though the water temp was at 58 degrees.

Nice job daveo. Way to put in the time for the chrome. I noticed the fish counts over the falls this last weekend went from 176 on sat, to 1415 sun and 1655 on Monday. There's a lot o' fish in the system. It just shows you persistency pays off in this high water.
Cheers!

Daaaaang!  Nice fish daveo!
Looks like you've gotten your herring spin down to a science.

We're still no where near the prediction for the Willie fish passage.   Expect springer season to last into the summer at this rate.

Thanks Spot. I have indeed come a long ways on my learning curve this year. I had set a goal to catch one spring Chinook from my kayak this year and I just caught my 7th for the season on Friday! I can't remember having any more fun fishing in my lifetime than I have had catching springers from my kayak. Thanks for the salmon clinic that got me started and is now responsible for my newest addiction. I think I need therapy.

Nice Job!  I was in the red crownline that was right next to you when you caught that fish on Friday.  I liked the netting technique.  I hope to try it out one of these days.

Congratulations on #7, you really are on fire.  Are you still using herring or have you switched to hardware?
