Stopped by Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor today.  They had 15% off on all fish finders.  Spent the $ on a Lowrance Elite 5 Gold which included the Navionics charts for West US & Canada.  With discount was $526 Plus Lowrance $100 rebate nets it out at $426.  Hope I didn't jump too soon.  Sale ends tomorrow Jan 8th.

It's surprising how many different models are being used.

Here's another. Humminbird 581i Combo.

I am surprised no one is running the Humminbird 1198c Color Sonar/GPS Combo yet.  I already use a kayak that is worth more than the vehicle that gets it to the water.  Now I need to step it up and run the fish finder worth more than both. ;)

I have a Hummingbird 140c Fishing Buddy, it's portable with an integrated transducer. Had to rig a funky clamp to my aka but it works OK. Still need to learn how to use it but at least I can see how deep the water is (usually). My biggest beef is it seems to consume the AA batteries like crazy. Seldom get close to a full day if I leave it running. Oh yeah, it's on a leash...

I have a portable Humminbird Piranha 4 that I got back in late '02 or early '03. Runs on 8 AA batteries. the O-rings have never leaked, and this thing seems as good as new except for a few minor scuffs on the outside edge. I'll still use this in my Ultimate 12 and my Don Hill mini-drifter for small lakes where I won't need gps, since my thru-hull donut installed in these boats fits the old transducer. I seldom take a fishfinder with me on small or medium rivers.

My new Lowrance Mark 4 DSI Sonar/GPS Combo (B&W display) should arrive this week.

Sorry about reporting these two heretofore unmentioned "outliers." More work for the Admin! >:D

I was out installing a "side board" on my Tarpon's slide trax last night, getting ready for it. I'm probably going to take advantage of Cabela's sale on the 12 volt, 8A sealed battery. I am waiting to see the transducer before I install a thru-hull donut in the forward hold.

Might head up to a local lake today and see if i can wake up some trout.

Wow, IHop, I get several full days, or almost an entire season of half-days and short sessions out of only one pack of 8 AA's Alkalines in my old portable Humminbird Piranha 4. I think I only paid $90 for that thing on sale, and its always worked fine. I'm almost afraid to see how long the new lithium AAs work in it. The lithiums are much longer lasting in my digital camera.
Ha! I thought the batteries were dead, which was strange, since I only put them in last Spring, and only used the fishfinder a few times. But I got in a decent "Aha!" when changing them out last night.  I discovered that only one battery had failed...gone completely dead. Other 7 were still good, so I just changed the one. I always carry 8 spares along with me to the lake, just in case.

Don't be so AR, I'm sure the mods have better things to do. ;-)

Been a long time since I was on the site due to health issues, etc. My suggestion to all is to just go fishing before you can't. Go get 'em !!

All of my hobbies have some element of lethal danger, avoiding which, is well served by a bit of AR :)

Gee ... I've would have never thought this poll has some element of lethal danger!   >:D

There is no easy way to alphabetize this poll without resetting it.  And I have better things to do than figuring out the hard way.

There should be a dropdown on each column to select how you would like to sort, and an option for a pie chart.

Mmmm pie.  Man I could really go for some apple pie right now.

Hi guys

I have been looking for a portable and have looking at the Humminbird PiranhaMax 230 PT Portable 4-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder.  Being the minimalist that I am, want the easiest to use without drilling any holes.
Any thoughts on this unit?  Will a suction cup work on a roto-mold kayak to hold the transducer on and last question has anybody had any experience with the wireless transducers you put on your line?  I do like the fact that it uses the AA's.
Thanks
Elliot
