Painting your kayak is possible, it's just not done that often.  Here's my X-factor I'm selling:

http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,6110.0.html

I just used spray paint found at the hardware store.  There are spots where the paint has chipped off, but I think it still looks pretty cool.  Camouflage is easy though since it doesn't matter if any chips off because it just adds to the effect.

the lighter color yaks, like lime green, yello and orange, put a battery powered lamp or lantern in your hull at night and they look like a floating lightbulb of that color.

painting it black and white?? omfg all i can think of is a HumpedBackOutback..... >:D >:D honestly don't
think that would happen tho.

Hopefully Yajammer and the others who've painted their yaks will chime in on that.

enjoy your outback.. if you can get one up to you in a reasonable amount of time and with a decent shippping price.

Painting the bottom is a waste of time as it will scuff to sh!t in no time.  I consider myself lucky that my paint has lasted as long as it has.  I used Krylon Fusion paint for the base and then used r/c car acrylic paint for the details and trim.  My teeth are actually colored 2" electrical tape  :embarassed:  One thing that think helped was using copious amounts of acetone on the area I planned to paint.  I think it acted similar to an adhesion promoter of sorts.  I also frequently respray a few topcoats of clear acrylic lacquer.

Would I do it again... heck ya!  The best part is that if you mess up, nothing is so permanent that it wouldn't come off with a power washer.

Took the plunge.  Considering I purchased a nice used 20ft powerboat with a 150hp engine for 6,000 bucks a few years back, this hobie outback wasn't cheap.  I have been drooling over the CL posts in Seattle and Portland everyone puts up here.

Total bill to get an outback here in Alaska with sailing rudder and turbo fins was $2,350.  OUCH! I don't even know what color I am getting...sounds like the yellow since that's what they seem to have in stock.  I was hoping for the white to get the paint job suggested on here.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Now I need to wait 7 to 10 days...

...has it been a couple of days yet???
