I was always either belowdecks in the engine room or in the sail as the boat's machine-gunner during the maneuvering watch.  No chance for me to get washed away.  I knew a few guys who I wish would have though  :-X

The lakes in WA that I am aware of having channel catfish off the top of my head are Banks, Harts, Millersylvania, Washington/Union (supposedly), and Greenlake (used to be planted there years ago).  The toughest part about finding them up here is that they aren't a sought after gamefish; most people in the PNW don't know or care about the difference between a bullhead, blue, or channel catfish.  The WDFW or WA state parks listings don't always delineate the catfish types so assume they are referring to bullhead unless you have specifics.

I've noticed that yar, I could ask some locals around where ever im planning on fishing and they would say their are cats but the wdfw wouldn't list the lake being stocked with them. You just wait I will find a honey hole one day and we will slay them!

In terms of kayak you should be a bit more specific on what kind of kayak. I assume you are talking about a SOT fishing kayak of some sort.  What type was the old kayak?

As far as brands per se have you looked at:

www.oceankayak.com

http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaking/

To give you an idea of the kayaks that seem popular on this forum.

It depends what kind of what you are looking for. Puget Sound, Ocean, Lakes, Rivers etc.

You had mentioned bass fishing and cats. As stated by previous posters, catfishing doesn't seem to be popular in the PNW as there all the Salmon, trout etc fisheries. If you are looking for a lake kayak without spending too much $$, try a used 10-13' SOT fishing kayak with at least some kind of rod holder or mount.

I would go to a marina that sells kayaks and see their selection. You can often get good deals on demo'ed and rental kayaks or other used kayaks. In addition check craigslist etc. to look for a used kayak.

I roll a P-13 and I'm 6'3" and slimmed down to about 230 - was about 245 around January. During halibut season my tackle box weighed an easy 20 pounds with all the lead I loaded in that thing. The P-13 will hold you just fine. There will be water in the foot wells but if you are afraid of water a kayak is a bad choice.
