Hope to see you on Sunday Carl.  I've never launched at Allyn or at near Johns Creek.  Any intel on where to launch?  And do let us know what Verle's says.

Ok just got off the phone with Verles.  They said the Chum are going pretty good at johns creek and that the hoodsport hatchery area is producing some also.  At Johns creek there is a public parking lot with a path in to a sandy beach maybe a 100-150 haul but then you are right there.  I did not realize it but this weekend is the hood canal chum derby I don't have any ifon it yet but I will drop by verles tonight to pick up some anchovies and a flier for the derby.  If you are interrested in the hatchery there are a couple other places to launch out that way.  by the way the Johns creek/allyn are are single point barbless hooks and no more that 2 per line.

See ya out there...

Great, just what I wanted to hear about Johns Creek, although I'm still eying Allyn because of the coho reports.  So is the public parking at Johns Creek that you are talking about, the public access north of the golf course?  I think that's a WDFW one, in which case you need the parking pass.

I think it's a low tide first thing in the morning with a pretty big swing, so if it's the launch I'm thinking of, we'll need to get there early otherwise we may have quite the workout paddling against the current going through the narrows there.

This thread on Washington Fly fishing said pretty much what you did.

And I think skirkpat needs to check out our site. ;)

Yeah, I saw that thread.  I was hoping perhaps someone had some info on a launch on the other side of the narrows so we could avoid any possible current issues.

Allen,

I will try to stop by tonight on my way home and check out the parking area.  And try to track down any other spots to launch from.  or If I find the anchovies I want in belfair maybe tomorrow after I fish.  I think there is a launch right in the middle of allyn,  I remember a ramp and dock but I don't know where the parking is.

That's what I heard.  But no specific details.  I'm sure we can find it.

I was just checking out the launch link that salmon university supplies and see lots of launches listed but i am not sure where some of them are.  it does show the one in allyn which is right down town,  I was not sure I had remembered that one right. Harstien island and maybe some others places like that would offer launches also but I willhave to get out and see some of these places to get it right in my melon so I don't give any bad advice..

Thanks for that pointer to the link from Salmon University.  I knew I had seen that site before, but couldn't find it again.  This time I added it to the Trip Planning Tools section in our Links Section.

I think Bryce and I are going to start at Johns Creek first thing in the morning.  Hope to see you there Carl.

Arrgh!!!  I started coming down with the flu last night.  I really wanted to still go, but the girlfriend put the end to that, which was probably the right thing.

No worries Pole2. I woke up to winds from 20-30 MPH blasting the trees @ my house. Although it's calmed it's still 18-20. Not a bad day to find something else to do... now to get down to that homebrewing..  :occasion14:

There are actually two launch areas in Allyn. There's a public boat launch and fishing pier in the middle of town. Then there's the North Beach Kayak Park just south of town, right at the mouth of Sherwood Creek. The Kayak Park is a good spot to launch, except at low tide when the bay empties & it's a long walk across the tideflat to the water. Most beach fishing for chums is done right in front of the Kayak Park, so it's a bit crowded when the fish are in.

It was way too windy to kayak this morning, but the weather is supposed to get better next weekend. Allyn would definitely be worth a shot....

Thanks for the info Tom. I'm down for giving this a shot when the weather gives us a little bit of a break.

Bummer about the flu and the wind.

I got out to the Temple of the Bent Rod, for a little while-
