After seeing pictures and videos of kayak fishing on this site and others, I bought a 13' Prowler about a year ago.  I spent the last year getting more comfortable with the kayak and slowly buying all the needed safety gear for playing in the saltwater.

A couple weeks ago I took the kayak into the surf without any of my fishing gear.  Needless to say, I looked and felt like a beginner.  I did ok on the way out, but the way in was treacherous.  I've been fishing dories since I was a kid, so I have lots of experience with boats in the surf, but it took a while to figure out how not to flip the kayak.

The forecast for Sunday was just too good to pass up.  After pushing my uncles out in the dory, it was time to fish the salt in the kayak for the first time.  I managed a pretty easy launch and was fishing within a few minutes.  It took a couple tries to find the fish, but once I did, the fishing was great.  I got a nice limit of blacks and one ling.  I even managed to get back in without flipping the kayak!  I'm now hooked on Kayak fishing.

Awesome report!  Welcome to the forum!  I've always wanted to try that area out.  Is that going to be your usual spot whenever the ocean is calm enough?

Welcome.  Great photo.  Others recognized the location, but I do not.  From where did you launch?

Welcome!  Word of warning.  Unless you have abundant resources and time, this place can be a BAD place to hang out...in a great sort of way!

Nice fish!

Welcome.  Great photo.  Others recognized the location, but I do not.  From where did you launch?

That is Cannon Beach.  I've been fishing this area from a dory for 20+ years.  I would love to head out with a couple more kayakers.  Next time the weather cooperates I'll let you guys know when I'm heading out.
