Last Friday I dropped some new folding crab pots off with the yak. I was very happy with how they performed and how easy they are to use. I drifted around for a few hours and pulled them in to find two HUGE dungees! ;D I then dropped em down to soak for the day and come back later with my wife to pull up some more. Later that night we head out and there were no pots to be found.  :( I was quite angry of course as anyone would be. I was thinking either they drifted in the current (which was pretty minimal) or someone had to have stolen them  >:( I thought that for sure someone stole em since I lost both pots.

Now just yesterday I came home to find my pot on my front porch with a phone number attached  :D I called the number and the gentlemen explained how he found my pot floating in the middle of Elliott bay in 500 foot deep water   :o Looks like I need to get some weight in my pots!

Good post haze grey.  I've had shrimp pots get "stolen" only to show up again at slack tide...oops.  It sounds like someone went above and beyond to return the pots.  I'm glad there are still some good folks left on this crazy planet.

Nice to meet honest people, hope he enjoyed a fat crab out of one.

Those folding traps are notoriously light. I add about 5-10 pounds to mine to keep them in one place. A second buoy 4 feet or so behind your main float helps to find them during a hard running current too!

Nice!! I had the same sort of thing happen to me last year. I dropped 2 round collapsible Promar's in Chambers Bay in Seilacoom. One pot stayed put, but the other drifted off while a group of us fished. About 2-3 weeks later I got a PM on facebook from a guy who found my pot floating around Whidbey Island. picked it up from him a few weeks later. Good to know these kind of people still exist.

I've added about 10lbs to each pot since then. Not had anymore drifters since.

That's so cool when people go that far out of their way. Sounds like you need to Plasti-Dip some rebar and wire a few chunks to the bottom of your pots.

It is really great to see good people out there! I am going to grab some flat dumbell weights to stick to the bottom. I will be adding a second buoy as well! When I was out looking I noticed how well the double buoys stood out.

Check in goodwill or thrift stores for the weights. I found 2 10lb plates in a goodwill near my house for $2 ea. Gave'em both a few good coats of rustoleum and zip tied'em in.

I tie-wrapped 2 two foot sections of rebar to the bottom of each of my collapsing traps.
