So I ordered a set of the beach kayak cart Wheelez.  They wanted 80 bucks to ship it to Alaska and I say "no chance".  They then say they can ship via USPS.  I say that's better so I send in the forms.  I don't see a charge on the credit card so I write them back and get an email back saying they received payment. I asked since I had a security issue with my credit card but it was well after my order.  Still...

Well my credit card hasn't been charged and a month later I still don't have the wheeleez.  I HATE this kind of waste of my time.  So are these things worth it or do I just cancel my order give them a SUPER bad customer support review and move on?  I can McGyver things together as well as anyone.  But my time is valuable.

Advice?  I just got my new Outback in so I am QUADRUPLE pissed that I have waited a month for these stupid wheels.

Here's the email string:

Otto,

I do not see a payment on my credit card for anything similar to the cost of the cart or the date of purchase.

If you haven't shipped it yet, please let me know when it will ship and what method of USPS.  If I Can't get it within a reasonable time, I can do without though your product comes highly recommended.

Best regards,
Rudy Tsukada

Otto,

Not sure if you processed the order yet but I had a security issue with the credit card I gave you.  If you haven't processed yet, let me know and I will resend the new card number I got.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I didn't see anywhere to check shipping method so I am not sure if the shipping is correct.

I have attached the PO if you could verify the total is the correct amount, the order is good to go.  It's good to go if it's less.

Thanks again for the prompt reply and option.  I wasn't looking forward to the outcome of building anything remotely as functional as your product.

Would like to order but I am NOT going to pay $85 for shipping to Alaska.  I know its not your companies fault but somebody needs to tell Fed Ex and UPS that Alaska is the 49th state and not an international destination.

There has to be a better and cheaper way to get it up to Alaska like USPS.

If you can figure out a more reasonable shipping charge, I’d be happy to purchase.  Otherwise I can craft my own.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

That is crazy! I could fit my small wheel-eez beach cart in a 12x6x24 inch box and send it USPS priority to anchorage for $15.09.   At least according to the USPS website.  Next Adventure had them there for $89 last time I checked.  I would be willing to help you out if needed.  I am not sure if they have the Hobie Specific one for the scuppers.

I checked outdoorplay.com and did not see the wheel-eez brand.  I try to stay local, but a couple years ago no one in town had the rigging and hatches I needed for my home-brew kayak so I went with Austinkayak.com. I have had great experiences with them. They have wheel-eez and the hobie specific one and they charge a $14.95 flat rate fee to Alaska.

Let me know if you would like me to check for you at Next Adventure.  Or maybe Jammer or Nate will chime in.  I need to go there and get the Sealine lumbar support pad later this week anyways.

Rudy,
Cancel order, if they are in that much disarray internally you don't need them having your credit card information.

Let Craig help you. i think you'll be much happier. sucks that you'd need to wait a bit more but you'll know for certain this time that it's coming.

REI carries them.  I don't know the situation with shipping in AK from REI but it has to be better.

The official Wheeleez site wanted about $220 with shipping and I got mine from REI a couple months ago for about $160 with my 20% off member sale coupon and free shipping on items over $50

Great advice.  Thanks!

I will give them till tomorrow morning to reply and come up with a solution.  You just never know and everyone makes mistakes... including me for sure!

They are sponsors so let me get back to ya in the morning.  But I need something soon, it's a lot heavier than my mini-x and I don't want to drag a $2000+ kayak around like my $400 craigslist special.

Thanks again!

I've made my own set of wheels for a kayak before and I have to tell ya, it is worth it to get a set of wheeleez IMO.

I'll check with NA when I'm in there on Friday if someone doesn't beat me to it.  We should be able to get something set up for ya.

K84,
I will be near Next Adventure tomorrow afternoon and again on Friday. If you would like me to grab you a set of wheels and send them to you ASAP, I can do it. You'll just need to pay me whatever it costs, but it should be cheaper then what you're about to pay.
Here's how you can help me...
I will be in Anchorage with my family on vacation from July 24-31 and would love to get a day out on the water while I'm in town. I will already have all the fishing pole's and tackle i need, but would need to rent a kayak.. Are you available at anytime during those dates to fish? Tight lines!

So thanks for all the offers of help.  I may need it.  I canceled the order.  Woke up this morning to an email that basically sent me back to step one.

I am going to check REI as suggested.  I think even the one in Alaska has the cheap ones in stock.  Hopefully it's not a wheeleez but I think it is.  Better than dragging the kayak across pavement or waiting till next weekend to use my kayak.

I am usually a pretty calm guy but this has me just FRICKING INFURIATED. The addiction known as Kayak Fishing must be getting stronger....lol.

I will post again as soon as I check REI.

Thank you for the email Leonard.

But please cancel my order.

I was quoted $85 for shipping using UPS or Fed Ex and was told USPS is acceptable.  The whole point of this back and forth was to avoid the ridiculous Fed Ex and UPS charges.  One month later, a new kayak sitting in the garage and I can't effectively use it because of the failure of this order.

I have all sorts of other people who are willing to pick up a product for me and ship it at a more reasonable cost.

Best regards,
Rudy Tsukada

Hello,

Thank you for re-submitting your order, I was looking through my email box earlier today looking for something that may have been missed in response to your earlier request.

We will process your order tomorrow, however I must advise you that it will not ship with USPS.  Wheeleez Inc will choose the least expensive alternative between UPS and FedEx.

I will advise you of our findings tomorrow prior to processing.

I have a Kayak Cart-Beach Model # WZ1-KCB for my Revo and would buy it again.

http://www.wheeleez.com/kayak-cart-beach.php

I had a poor experience with a Scupper Pup for my T13.  Within a few uses the posts had bent.  You can't beat the Wheelez balloon tires for all sorts of terrain.  I do not use the straps that came with it, but just some bungies.  I carry the stock straps in case I get into terrain which would require them.  The one issue I had with the Wheelez was the stock wheel pins popping off.

Jammer,  You let me know how I can help you and your family and I will try my best.  Those dates are INSANELY busy for ALL Alaskans as it will be the peak of the red and King run on the Kenai river!    PM me an itinerary of roughly where you plan to be and I might be able to suggest or help on a few things!

Certainly if I am not using my yaks, you are more than welcome to use them.  Now that I have two, one should be available though its likely to be a mini-x.  I think almost every rental place up here uses SINK but I might be wrong.

Picked up a smaller cart from Seattle Sports at REI for $80.  So basically for the price of shipping Wheeleez wanted, I picked up another cart.  Probably not as robust but at least I can use my Yak now.

Thanks for all the offers of assistance!  Like Jammer, if there is anything I can do for you all in Alaska, let me know!

Craig's correct, we stopped carrying them. Great product, but a challenging company to deal with. We may have an alternate source soon, but NA & Austin are both good alternate choices.

I sure like the C-Tug Kayak cart I bought from Outdoorplay last year for my Hobie Outback.
It's light weight, but very robust.....tough wheels you can air up to 30 PSI maximum....I run 20 PSI and go anywhere I normally fish/launch. :banjo:

I bought a fancy wheeleez scupper cart after reading many complaints from people buying cheaper carts and having them break.  It was $239 two years ago free shipping.  Was it worth it?  The cart is solid as a rock and can traverse anything with ease.  The wheels are totally worth it.  My regret was buying a scupper style cart.  What a pain in the ass to deal with.  Once the yak is on it it's great but getting it on and off are a huge hassle specially with gear loaded.

Great wheels cancel the order and go somewhere else for them.
It's never too late to start procrastinating.

I got the Hobie heavy duty scupper cart when I purchased my Outback last year. It was a pain getting the cart into the scupper holes when the kayak was loaded. I always had to ask for help when people were around. Later on I just tip the yak onto its side far enough to get the cart inserted without dumping everything.

The heavy duty cart was great on terrain that's not soft. It was crap on sand, mud, and loose rocks. I noticed  Zee using his Wheeleez beach cart with the large wheels, it was effortless to mount/dismount and rides over everything. I finally got the WZ1-KCB and the Hobie one hangs in my garage collecting dust. One negative...due to the shape of the Outback's bottom, it can be a balancing act to get it onto the Wheeleez cart. However, once it's on and strapped in, it's great.

I highly recommend the Wheeleez beach cart with the big wheels. Moving the Outback in any terrain is no longer a drag.  ;D
