I met up with Jammer down at GR Park last night.  I didn't get on the water until about 7:40, or so.   I met him out in the sturgeon hole for about 30 minutes of sturgeon fishing.  Jammer had been there for awhile and had not been getting bit.  We decided to give it a couple more minutes when he hooked into a shaker.

After a few more minutes we decided to troll crank baits for bass near the park. I was able to hook into the twin of the one I caught on Sunday night.   It  was 16.5 inches, as well (It may have been 3/64 - 1/16 inch, or so, longer ;)).  It put up a great fight with lots of aerobatics.

As I was engaging my fish in an epic battle of man versus nature, Jammer hooked up with a nice fat walleye.  I have to say I was a little jealous.  I need a new species for some more points.

Jammer got a good photo of his walleye in the hawg trough for the AOTY.  I have to thank him again for putting me on fish.

I know what I will be doing later in the week.  Time to bust out the walleye spinners and bottom bouncers. ;D

This AOTY stuff is addictive.  Its amazing how I can sit for hours targeting a new, or different species of fish, and then being just as stoked catching one good one as I am coming home with a limit of fish I know how to catch.  It seems to get me on the water more, as well.  If it wasn't for needing a bass or walleye, I probably would not have bothered going out for such short periods of time on Sunday or Monday.

Way to go guys.  With you two catching so many fish I really need to get out there and start getting some AOTY points again.

I may try again this weekend.  I wanted to do the AOTD in Coos Bay Saturday, but I am going to a retirement party on Friday night.

Yes....that was a good couple hours. You've had a hot stick with the bass lately. Sturgeon was slooooow, but bass and walleye are sure heating up..

Thanks for the invite but I have to move into the house next weekend. In theory.

What kind of crank baits were you guys pulling?
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

I was using a shallow diving #75 Rebel Crawfish (Brown with orange bottom)  I had it quite a ways back behind me.  When I got in close to the rock pile, it would bounce of the rocks so I figure it was running about 8-10 feet deep.  I started off with a rattle trap, but I go no love from the fishies so I switched.

I don't know about Jammer, but I was figuring I had a shot at both in that area and using the crank baits.

Crankbaits:
These Luhr Jensen Crystal Crawdad's attached in the picture have triggered many strikes from SMB as well as the walleye I caught on Monday. I like the deep divers because I fell like it's easier to control my depth.
Coosbayyaker had a great question. I was mostly expecting to reel in a bass at the time, but this fish felt a lot different. It hit like a freight train with a lot of power up front, fought for a few minutes and I eventually realized when I brought it kayak side that it was Walleye.  Smile Fishy!

Don't forget to bring creature baits and make sure to drop shot senko's and small fish patterns
