Alkasazi-

The Scotty would be fine in non-current situation, but because it's off-center, has the potential to be a pain in a strong current.

You also want to make sure that the device doesn't have a jam cleat on it- you want the cleat near you so that you can quickly release in case of trouble.

cool. I knew it wouldn't work the way pictured, but thought it might work if mounted directly off the stern. good point on the release being far away, I didn't think about that.

The jam cleat on the scotty mount is of concern. I think the trick is to simply bypass it and put another cleat closer to you seat.

MickFish of NCKA has mounted a scotty anchor system on the back of his cobra kayak.  I have a similar rig but no photos to show so here are his...

There's a few guys on NCKA who've gotten this drift thing down (scwafish & fishinshim). Here's a pic of another custom drift anchor and the spoils. :o

After fishing the Humptulip with my improved dual anchor trolley system, I realize I need to rig a proper stern mount roller.

I enjoy the nice custom brackets that some people have made, or had made.  I think I could make something with the scotty roller, but I'm not sure I've seen the one shown..I'll have to check.

A proper rig would allow for much easier, and more fishing.  It was difficult to properly position myself in some spots with the slight angle the kayak took in the current. requiring me to reposition a bit.  I was still able to catch a nice fish at anchor, using a kwickfish, but I feel I would have had much better success if my anchoring system was dialed in.

If the river level stays low, my current system will work, but if the river is flowing rapidly like before a stern mount rig is key.  Hopefully I can put something together by next week.

Interesting outcome there Espiga. Glad to hear it worked out for ya though.

I found a metal source/manf. in Ballard (http://www.onlinemetals.com) and got myself a nice piece of aluminum for the anchor bracket. I'm gonna start fabricating by Thurs. and hopefully will have it ready for the weekend. I'll post pics if anyone's interested.

Z,
Will you be able to remove and replace the bracket when needed?
I like the anchor at stern but hate to have all that hardware hangin from my boat all the time.
And by all means, post pics!

Yep. The Xfactor has inserts (see pic) so you can take it on and off. Although, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It is sticking off the yak about 8 inches or so but it's a very useful piece of hardware that will get you some good river fish. :icon_thumright: Maybe just put a tennis ball on the end of it when not in use and should be cool.

Cool!,
Now I have a winter project!
Trying to figure a stern anchor for my P-13.
How big is that pyramid weight used on that system?
I got a 5# anchor but it drags me around in a slight breeze.
I do have a few of "Mooch's Balls"  MMMMMMMMM......
Any body else have a stern anchor rigged on their P-13?
GAWD I LOVE THIS SITE!
Thanks Allen!!! Et.Al.

Zee ... you going to weld?  pics pics pics!!!

Many kayaks have attach points at the rear.  These are rudder mounts.

I think the guys are using 10 pound pyramid anchors.

I wish I had welding equipment. I'll be going a route more anyone could use by using aluminum instead of steel. Aluminum is plenty strong and is softer than steel so easier to drill and shape. Picked up a bar of it today! Hope to do some work on it tonight.. depending on the number of trick or treaters.
