My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Someone should send this to Nate. I heard he recently made an anchor donation ...

Yeah, I might have forgotten rule #1 in using and anchor yesterday, "connect anchor to kayak."  I did get a great workout though.

I like that $9.00 price tag.  I think I may have to grab one

I also thought the price was right. It's only 2.2 lbs though, is that enough?

The next jump is to 4.4 lbs for $20. (not as good of a deal)

That's plenty, & that's the size i use. Reason being, these types of anchors don't hold based on weight like a pyramid style does, they hold based on the grabbing/digging power of their flukes.  A heavier version won't hold any better, in fact, it'll hold worse.  Grab anchors, such as the bruce, danforth, etc, need a certain amount of counter weight(drag from a boat/kayak) compared to their size to make their flukes dig in and hold.  Since a kayak doesn't give much drag, the increase in surface area of a larger anchor's flukes won't sink in and hold quite as well.

Also, you MUST make sure you give your anchor line enough scope, as the angle of pull greatly affects the anchors effectiveness- Anthony

Cool, how much chain do you put on it?

I think it puts a little more weight to the "top" of the anchor and helps it dig into the mud/sand a bit better. I just picked up this set-up yesterday at West Marine for around $34. I got the 4.4 lb version instead of the 2 lb anchor. It's much easier to handle behind my back than the 15 lb monster I was working with before.

It helps to tip the angle of the anchor shank down closer to the river bed, which is a better angle to hold

What about anchor float systems. What are you using to keep your anchor line afloat in bigger water as I am fishing the Fraser River. As of now I am using 2 big laundry detergent bottles and a quick knot to slide them.

I use a small rubber inflatable anchor ball in series with a large foam crab pot buoy.  The hydrodynamics of your buoys play a big part of keeping them afloat in fast water.  So far it has been able to stay well above the surface in any water I've anchored in.
