Pelagic and I arrived around 7am to find ankle slappers at the beach and glass all the way out.  We started out working closer in and Pelagic caught a couple of nice blacks.  We moved over to the rock but the bite was painfully slow all around.  The kelp was thick and formed a massive mat that looked as if one could walk out on it because of the low tide.  After a good 20 minutes of fishing next to the rock Pelagic had caught a starfish and that was it.

We headed out to deeper waters to hit some of the usual spots.  I was poking around over a reef that had always been good for at least a few deep rockfish if not some nice lings.  Not even a sniff.  Pelagic was pulling in an underling here and there, but the rockfish didn't seem interested.  We resorted to cruising around looking for schools on the sounder and dropping in on them which provided us with one or two fish, but never a steady bite.  This search took us north of the bouy and back to where we started out, then back to the rock.  By this time, Pelagic had almost filled his limit of rockfish but I was only about half full.

The bite started picking up as we started working the rock for the second time that morning.  I found a steady bite of rockfish in one of my favorite spots near the rock and Pelagic had polished off his limit for rockfish.  Within another half hour, I had my limit as well.  Pelagic had to head in so I went farther out again to see if I could take advantage of the change in pace and score a ling or two.  I ended up pulling in and throwing back a nice(nice by pre-2011 standards ::) ) cabezon at around 22" and a couple more rockfish but no keeper lings.

I think this might have been one of the best weather days I've seen at PC.  The wind didn't chase me off the water until about 2:30 or 3 and it was pretty much a lake as far as swells go.  We noticed a lot of crud in the water that may have been some sort of algae.  After opening up a few stomachs we came to the conclusion that the fish were just not hungry since they were feeding so heavily on other little critters.

That was the calmest day yet this year!  You could have fished off a pool toy.  Rockfish stomachs were PACKED with 3-4 inch squid.  Good grade of fish, a few smalls but most were chunks.  Can't wait to head back out!

They were fricken funny! Highlight of the day!  Curious little buggers.. I had a couple about a yak length off my stern.  They would start to swim away and I would start talking to them "hey little buddy, come back, I wanna take your picture" and sure as shit they flipped around (like on a dime) and swam back, got about a yak length away and sat there cocking their head side to side.  Then they would swim off and it would start all over again.  Did it about three times before they got board and swam off.  Or Rawkfish could have scared them off with all his laughing ;D
